I hate them, I just tried joe's juice on them since I had the siringe in my hand. Kalk Paste? Got some Xenia I'd like to kill too

Hopefully this post is more of a joke :hmm3:

Syringe in hand huh?

You should be able to simply scrape them off. Most will not act as aptasia does and regrow from tattered remains.

Seems like a shame though, maybe you can chop and sell them to someone?

nope...serious as a heart attack...was killing a couple aptasia and I figured why not...I would not make a fellow reefer suffer with these mushrooms(the famous green stripe)...I've got like 20 mushrooms I could get rid of, so scraping is huge pain-I would essentially have to break tank down to get all the different rocks out.

Then ya I would think to try the aptasia killers. If Joe's isn't cutting it lemon juice is another option.

I have yet to find anything that kills them (without nuking the rock or the rest of the inhabitants).

I haven't tried joe's juice or kalk yet. I've tried boiling vinegar with some success. Tried lemon juice, but I think that just ****ed them off. I've tried manual removal, works on some, but a lot of them are secured deep in crevices in the rock. As of now, I occasionally hit them with boiling vinegar (small numbers, because vinegar can cause your pH to drop), and for the most part have them on the SPSless half of the tank. The problem is they like to wander, and I've lost a couple of montis & and acro frag after they've had a muchroom on them for the night.

Been meaning to hit them with some kalk, but since I don't use it in my tank I don't have any handy. I'm not quite to the trade in my LR stage, but it's getting close.

And to those that say trade them in/ sell them. The going rate in my area is ~$0.25 per shroom. That's a lot of work for 10-20 bucks in trade.

Would you prefer to sell them? Pictures would be appreciated, of any corals you would like to get rid of, including the mushrooms.. I'm looking to start on a coral collection myself. Are xenia relatively easy to care for?

Yeah if you find a buyer willing to cover shipping them you'll get rid of them quick, maybe all together.

Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime (found in the canning section of the grocery store) mixed with RO into a thick paste works well for me. Turn off pumps for 30 min or so after applying. Sometimes it takes two applications (wait a few days). I wouldn't do more than a few at a time.

Thank you, will try the paste....I was getting worried about the level of advise on here for a moment-the solution to pest mushrooms was to get people to pay $45 for shipping for green striped mushrooms...thats a new concept

Excuse me, I am interested in your mushrooms and other corals that you do not want, such as your xenia. Wouldn't you rather sell them than kill them and risk the rest of your tank? You may have a willing taker right here... Now.. Pictures please?

BuckeyeTodd, I found out by accident, that once the paste sits for a couple of weeks, it really zaps them. It will get kind of hard in your container you mix it in, but just add some RO back in to get it to the consistency you want it. The fresh batch I had to zap the mushrooms twice to get them. The batch that sat killed them right not.

Alunai, it is not always possible to remove the rocks in an established tank to get the corals out, hence Buckeye's valid question.

Kalk paste works on the red ones, tho sometimes I have to give them a second dose! Those little buggers pop up everywhere and sting everything!

Thanks for the Kalk paste suggestion. I posted this question on another forum and didn't get any answers other than the razor blade. I have a mushroom that attached itself inside the opening of my blue assessors favorite cave.
