By the way I tried Pickling Lime for several months, did not have eny issues but I did not like the brown color of the residue so I switched back to a commercial brand.
WalMart stocks it during the canning months, you can pick it up for less than 2$. If you missed that you can order online... it's still a massive bargain compared to the cost of reef specific Kalkwasser.
I buy pickling lime, remove the labels, and write "KALK" on the bottle. Then I sell it on ebay for ten times what I paid, to unsuspecting reefers who have absolutely no clue that kalk is the German word for lime. Act now, supplies are limited!!
IMO/IME.... for a gravity drip system where the bottom of the container is never dosed into the sytem... the wages is fine... but in a nilsen where everything is subject to going into the system, I only use ESV kalk
