My Vortech runs extremely hot all the time so much so that I am nervous about the motor on my acrylic. today I almost burned myself touching I have done the upgrade and have delt with problem since the beginning. is this just me.

VorTech's will typically run 50-55deg C, however, once the ambient temperature rises above 78 degrees, it is not uncommon to see pumps operate in the high 50deg range. The thermal cutoff for the pump (first slow it down, then shut it off), is right around 60deg C.

That doesn't sound like my pump for sure I would say at least 86-90 degrees to the touch I could but a little temp gage on it to see and I did pay 35 or 25 last year sometime to upgrade the new shaft my unit came out for the 2nd release! and friend and I were talking about this problem last night he has one pump very cool to the touch and the other like mine.

thanks tim

thanks tim

I stuck my temp probe on it from my reef keeper 2 and it went to 100 degrees not sure if it goes beyond that because would you really want to know your tank is over a 100 degrees, :eek1: so any way I will contact him right now again thank you!

sorry

sorry

I wasn't thinking maybe that the way they are then my buddy has two he says one is room temp to the touch the other is like mine.. I will try to get a better temp reading again thanks.

My one pump runs at room temp. all the time running full blast and is dead silent that never had the wet side upgrade.
(Its one of the origanal pumps)

I just got my other pump back from IceCap thay put in the wet side upgrade. Now my pump runs SUPPER HOT and is NOISY. I have adusted it to get it as silant as I can.

I asked the tecknision abought it before the pump was sent back to me and I was told it was running fine for 24 hrs.

HEAT = wasted electricity pluse its not good for the pump.
Also when I put my hand on the back of the two diffrent pumps you can also feel a big diffrence in how smooth the two pumps are running. (Yes thay both are lined up properly.)

I have switched wet sides from one pump to the other pump and theres no change it the HEAT and NOISE.
(It seams to be something in the motor)

My qwestion is why is my one pump running HOT and one is COLD?

Who eles has this going one with there pumps?

Its 3/4 inch acrylic with no spacer like it says to run on the pump spacer sticker. Also I had to change the whight washer to the black washer that came in the bag with the pump.

Thanks

How thick is the aquarium's glass?

Provide a name and Monday I will look up the history and see what was done on your pump. Did you send the entire pump or wet side only? After all pump repairs, they are tested and left to run overnight to verify proper operation. Only after passing this test are they sent back out. If you just got it back and the wet side was rebuilt you may just need some breakin time.

I sent in the entire pump in thay put the wet side kit in it. Its the pump that runs HOT that I sent in.

Thanks

O also this same pump once in a blue moon will kinda ramp up in speed even though it is set running at full blast. I have never seen my other pump do it that ether.

Thanks

I have four of these pumps and each of them run in between 140 and 155 degrees fahrenheit. Out of the six I have ever run all ran that temperature. It sounds like it is on par with what the typical temperature is.

I have two of them bought recently and both of them are seriously whisper quiet. They both also run right around 140 degrees at 100%. I don't have a problem with the temp myself and love how quiet they are.
