Anyone a fan of formalin dips?

I had what presented as an oodinium outbreak in my tank after adding a fish that wasnt QT by me personally.

the survivors are in QT(cupramine) and i'm waiting for my order of Formalin MS to come in the mail soon. i will be dipping an emperor juvie(4.5") first..

I've read the procedures and clips about it on WWM and other resources.

Anyone care to share their experiences with formalin dips?

I used to formalin dip before placing into QT. I'd go right from the shipping container into a adjusted time (between 2 to 10 minutes) freshwater pH adjusted dip with 2ml formalin.

I never had any disease problems after that and I never lost a fish during QT, but I stopped using it. It's a known carcinogen and I just didnt like being exposed to it. Once my wife was pregnant I threw it out and havent used it since.

Provides relief for oodinium infected fish. I would not do it as a regular thing. I believe that ANALYZE, then treat is always best.

Agreed...see what the fish needs, then treat.
