Anyone bought Formula One frozen food lately?

I got a large pack from a LFS last week, and it seems like they changed the gel binder or something--it's a lot more difficult to break apart and my tangs don't even seem able to eat it as a result. Anyone else have a similar experience?

It could be that I just got a bad pack, but I don't want to go out and buy another one if I'm just going to run into the same problem.

Lately it seems some packs break down into unrecogniseable (sp) goo, and others stay like rubber. Very batchy.

Is there a possibility that happened within the last six months? Somewhere within that timeframe I noticed some issues...

Wonder if this happens to fall inline with when Ocean Nutrition was yet sold again, to Envy of Europe?

Interesting!

Sorry this doesn't pertain to the frozen food. A few weeks ago, I ran out of Spectrum Pellets, so I bought two new containers of Prime Reef and Formula 2 Pellets. After about 2 weeks of feeding that stuff, my Purple Tang and Sohal lost considerable body mass. I quickly switched back to Spectrum.

I don't know if it has to do with the quality of the pellets, or if the tangs digestive system needed to adjust to the new food:confused:

i bought some formula one and two a few months ago, they are like rubber, don't really break down well at all for me compared with other frozen food so i used a garlic masher and dropped in smaller chunks which seem more edible to the fish.. but yeah, don't really like it packed with a gel-binder so tough..

yeah unarce, i like spectrum for pellets too, all my fish seem to eat them pretty readily.. though i try to mix it up with kent plat herbivore and formula one pellets, spectrum is my favorite for their afternoon/evening snacks..

Same experience here. I stopped using the stuff and have switched over to pellets and flake. Even after soaking for awhile, and smashing with my fingers the food stayed pretty gelled together. Ive been using this stuff for several years and i can def. tell a difference.

Agreed! It takes forever to break down the Formula One I recently bought.

The garlic masher is a great idea. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for everyone's responses. I've personally given up on my F1--it really is too tough. I'm going to try and make some food myself.

I always bought Formula 1 frozen and added it to my home-made stuff, so I never noticed before. Just recently I bought some and had to use it straight out of the package - it was really hard to break up, very rubbery like everyone is saying. The Formula 2 I bought was much easier to break up.

The extra gelatin actually works out well for feeding small frogfishes. I slice up the F1 cubes into strips and poke them onto some fishing line at the end of a feeding stick.
