Anyone double up on skimmers?

Very nice, learned something new :D

Now if that holds true in the real world (in theory things sound good but don't always work) than maybe all skimmers should have 2 tubes one run wetter and the other dryer.

BTW I believe your disease has been diagnosed by someone, I think it was reef'tarded or something like that :D

well like everything else in the hobby -theories and opinions change with the tide. on the flip side of that argumrnt is the statement that most skimmers are run over rated for tank size, so after removeing strong bonded organics, the single skimmer will then start to remove the weaker bonded ones. Its hard to diagnose anything in this hobby because every system is truely different. I believe that you could take the exact same equipment and have different people set it up and every system would run differently aand have different needs. Like several artists with the same paint and brushes painting the same sunset. every painting woud be different.
O.K. I am done with the physch babble bs

2 large rk2's

2 large rk2's

I run two large rk2 skimmers on one system and they both work like a foam machine all the time , their job is never done with several hundred cromis damsel as well as other tankmates, I dont think 2,3,or four skimmers would hurt, hell lets see how clean the water can get . isnt that the point clean water?

I am actually going to run a little test. I’ve been running a Bullet 3 on my 280 reef with a super high bio load. I use it to skim super wet @ 2-3 gallons per day. Based on my bioload I should likeIy have a larger skimmer. So I picked up a used ASM G4X modified to recirc. I am going to set it to skim dry but heres the fun part. My Beckett draws from a very small baffled area in my sump that both overflows feed into. The pump on the skimmer and the return are evenly matched with a slight advantage to the skimmer pump. My sump then has another chamber where the skimmer effluent flows into. I am going to place the needle wheel in that compartment so effectively it will be skimming what’s already been skimmed by the beckett. I’ll post the results soon!

That is exactly what people are saying when that refer to skimmers competeing. I run my return pumps in the middle of the sump with the skimmers on either side and each side if fed from an overflow. that way the skimmers never touch the same water. That would be an even better experement if you usedd the same skimmer twice.

I would say that skimmers do not remove 100% of the organics from the water on the first pass. rather they remove a little at a time. I dont think it would be an accurate depiction of the becketts performance.
