Anyone else build this?

Not sure about anyone else out there but I am getting aggravated. I have both a Phoseban reactor and a Pentair inline charcoal canister filter. I buy product that is made to be used in the bag they come in, such as Chemi-pure, and the product won’t fit in the canister. Has anyone made a unit out of 6” PVC? I figure that way I can lay the bags down as they are made to be used.

Thanks

Not sure if this helps, but can you cut the bags of Chemi-pure open and pour the contents into the reactor? If the reactor has a control valve you could turn it down far enough to keep the media in slow roll. Same as is done for loose media like Rowa-Phos. Chemi-pure may be too fine a media to do this with, but I have heard that some people use Purigin in a reactor the same way and Purigin is very fine as well.

JDieck converted an old Kalk reactor to a giant phosban reactor....So sure you can do it!

I would ditch the bags though, these media probably all were designed to be fluidized and work best that way. I would put some good layers of sponge like material on the bottom (inlet) and some at the top to prevent excess media from getting out of the system.

The downside to PVC is the lack of see through capability. You can really see how "fluidized" it is so you're really just guessing when you turn the water on.

I had a special acrylic 3-chamber media reactor built by Geo. The are all interconnected from one inlet so one large pump feeds all 3 chambers. It has independant ball valves to dial in the flow to each of the 3 chambers. It's very nice looking and quite overkill...but hey...when you've got this much money sunk into it, what a few hundred more? :D

Mike,

Making it out of acrylic is something I think is very possible.

Always like trying to build things.
