Anyone else have coraline algae die off

All my nice coraline algae on the glass is starting to die off. It looks like it's mainly the stuff on the glass. It looks like old paint that you could scrape off and it's white. Anybody know what's causing this. All my levels and corals are fine. A guy I got some of my coral from says he has this problem too, where it dies off once a year and then grows back. It's weird. I don't really like it. Whatever he's got I have now.

Immediately check your tank temperature with a thermometer other than the one you've been using: that's a first step---thermometers can be wrong. If the tank gets above 85, this can happen. It will grow back, if caught fast.

Normally when I see it it is due to a drop in avaliable calcium or carbonate. This does not sound like the case here, but you may want to recheck with different test kits. If the readings are too low, the more aggressive calcium users can out-compete with the coralline, resulting in a pale waxy look.

Can you post the actual measurements (and test kit brand used). That way we will know: 1) what you actually measured, and 2) how reliable the measurement is.
