Dennis

How many people have the ability to remove a post?

The Reef Central moderators are the only ones that can remove posts.

They get unhappy when vendors try to hijack threads, especially when it's off topic.

Vendors have their own forums on Reef Central where they can promote their products. Discussion forums are off-limits to direct advertising - or bashing other vendors products.

I started reading that whole page before I realized how long it was. Then it dawned on me that it certainly wouldn't apply to me as I only feed table scraps anyway.

So Philip I'm curious - how does a link to DT's website have anything to do with copepods? Wasn't that the original premise of this thread? To my knowledge DT's does not produce copepods.

There are plenty of threads that talk about microalgae and compare various products. This thread doesn't seem to me like the appropriate place.

Mud slinging - no. There is an old adage "Never wrestle a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it". We have never made negative comments about any of our competitor's products, and we aren't going to start now.

Holy crap I'm tired of reading about Green water lol.. Thats one long page..

Seafarm I dont really think Philip was promoting DT's or nothen just pointing out the page to us... I do agree with you though.. I think DT might have been a lil off base by posting a promo for his product.. Like you said this was about pods anyway.. Not if phyto feast was Truely "A living culture" or just preserved. But Oh well

I'm not an expert on Green water.."Even though I feel like it after reading all that lol" But I can tell you that I've been happy with the results from Phyto feast.. Our seahorse tank is all but what 3 weeks old? The glass is covered with Pods.. So is Hex tank at Johns.. I put about 2 drops in every other day in mine! I've also been adding about 6 drops to my other system with the same results.. I use to culture nanochloropsys like Tomoko and it seemed to increase my pods as well.. But nothen like this stuff has.. And I had to use a heck of alot more then a couple of drops lol.

Any how thought I'd throw my 2cents in the bank ;)

Well Randy you are obviously the one well liked here, but I really don't think a shot over the bow at that point was of much help. For one I don't think Philip was (however he probably will now!) trying to sling any mud at you. He was posting a reference that obviously you would rather not be seen, and obviously the moderators (whomever that is) was really one sided about it. By removing his post, that leaves us in the dark only to make assumptions. What did his very first post say? Maybe that would enlighten me and bring me to a different conclusion. I would guess by that old adage you were referring to your competitor as the pig and not philip. I would agree this got a bit out of hand, but again until we see ALL posts how are we to know what was actually said by DT. I would guess though that he probably chimed in about the time someone said PhytoFeast was just like DT's but again I don't know because someone decided they should decide what we should discuss. I have never used either product but I do like open discussion to help me decide on which I purchase.

I agree that this forum may be the appropriate place to discuss the findings that I have published on my website. This is not about pods, as pods will feed on live or dead phytoplankton, as well as detritus. It is about truth in advertising, a concept that does not seem to exist in the aquarium trade.
I suggest that this discussion be moved to the general discussion forum.
I also suggest that the discussion be about the data and that people be asked to read the report before they comment on it and that they comment politely. Personally I believe that Randy should respond to the data instead of calling me a pig for presenting it. As far as your claim that you have never said anything negative, what about the letter that I am responding to http://www.reefnutrition.com/store/dt.asp that was a thread on your RC forum for months.
What do you say Randy? How about we get past insults and discuss the data.

Correction; I agree that this forum may not be the appropriate place to discuss the findings that I have published on my website.

I don't mean to go against what 8Ball found, but to be really fair, I think a side by side trial is needed to evaluate which one (of the commercial products and a home brew) produces a better result when it comes to their effects on a pod population. Two to three weeks after cycling, the pod population suddenly explodes! You will see tiny clear looking pods all over the glass surface. I had this happen every time I started a reef tank without fail regardless of what has or has not been fed into the tank. YMMV.

Now to our vendors/supporters -

I wish you won't turn a reef club thread into a battle ground between vendors. Although I appreciate good products, a valuable input and information from our vendors (I personally had good results with both DT's and Reed Mariculture's products), our reef club forum should not be used for a vendetta against someone or a competitor. Please stop posting in this thread and let us Alabama Reefers return to happy reefing.

Its incredible how easily things can be taken out of context. I was not meaning to call either Philip or Dennis pigs - simply pointing out that slinging mud around doesn't do anybody any good. Perhaps I used a bad adage.

Tomoko, per your request I'll take my response to Dennis to my Reef Nutrition forum and we'll quit cluttering up your forum. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you, Randy. I know you meant well. I am sorry that some people overreacted to your comments. Please don't let it get you down.

Tomoko

Oops...didn't mean to start a flame war....just needed some pods for the mandarin....I guess that's why they say don't get a mandarin! All sorts of trouble! Hee hee....

(Just thought this needed a little lightening up...)

I did not mean to put that much gas on the fire. After reading the artical on Dt's site I thought some would like to read it.
Sorry for any flame up.
