Didn't last long but she is 9 1/2" of Emperor bliss. Really doesn't have the orange tail but many so called orange tails don't in fact have an orange tail. What they do have is insanely vivid aquarium. Hopefully whoever bought the fish put her in a 300 gal+ display. The anal fin really stands out and is absolutely stunning!!! T

I saw that beast. I thought that maybe they have re-thought calling it an orange tail.

Orange Tail or not, this is still an amazing fish.

Maybe I'm just spoiled or something, but I didnt think it was that great. I like mine much better, even with the slowly healing HLLE.

There is no ugly emperor- lets get that straight.

Recty, I dont think that HLLE, but instead just mehcnical dmage. How long has he had thoise marks like that? It shouldve healed quickly (if its what I think it is).

It is HLLE. I agree that if I had just seen it at this stage, I would probably think it was mechanical damage.

Read through my thread on the FOWLR forums...

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1622958

I watched the HLLE slowly take hold and spread across his face and forehead. The patches eventually joined together and made some bigger patches of HLLE. Now, it could be that he had HLLE all across his face which basically left him with not a lot of skin between holes and if he pushed into the rocks it would have made that skin very easy to tear...

The good news is that he is healing. I jut got this face shot of him last night and it looks much better than even just a month ago.

:( That fish reminds me of my last emp He was about that size and a sweet fish. He ate all my corals. Sps,LPS, Soft. When they get that size they eat what they want, and they want food all the time. LOL

Thats a really nice emporer Creetin. Is he a "home grown" specimen of did you buy him at that size? How big was he in that pic?

A question for veteran emporer keepers - once they have fully transformed into adults, as they grow, does their pattern continually change, to add more and more lines?

I don't know exctly how big my emporer is.... about 7", give or take a half inch, and has about 20 discernable stripes i.e. about the same amount of stripes as yours does Creetin. See pic below:

If I'm to believe this fish will get to 9 or 10 inches over the nect couple of years, then I would imagine that he'll have to develop more stripes?

I don't believe they get more stripes, just the gap between them gets bigger. There was an angelfish thread a week ago that had a monster emp in the wild, the stripes were tiny! I'll try and find it.

You know, Angels are fun to dive with too. Seeing them at their full size potential really emphasises their needs for a large tank. Here's a big ole Emperor off the coast of Mozambique:

After comparing, maybe they do get more, I counted roughly 24 on that big guy. Guess they just keep growing down from the top.

That big boy has 24-25 stripes though...... compared to mine, the original poster, and Creetin..... which all have about 20..... but then Recty's fish only has about 16 or so..... I'm wondering is Recty's fish a bit smaller.... maybe 5-6"??? Obviously, the number of stripes will vary from fish to fish, but it would seem some have niginfantly more than others....... just wondering if it correlates with age and size......

Ah ..... just spotted you made the same comclusion  ...... guess it helps when you read all of someones reply :)
