I noticed something the other day, when I was watching my reef. My new Centropyge flavicauda angel ate a floating piece of detritus, likely crab poop. My other fish often grab things like this, but spit it out. I didn't think much of it, until I saw him dive into the hammer coral - it was expelling waste, and he had himself a nice big snack! Seems the little guy enjoys poop! He's always picking at the rocks but due to the oversized cleanup crew and low nutrients, the only algae around is coralline, so I wondered what he was eating.
When I blow off the rocks with a turkey baster, I usually see a reasonable amount of detritus; nothing excessive, but it's there. Yesterday I 'basted' and to my surprise, there was just about nothing - I think I've discovered what he's eating off the rocks. Could I have the world's first detritus-eating fish, or is this something normal?
