anyone ever been here?

I went there today. And their tank prices are as advertised. I picked up a 12 gallon nano for $120+tax. I thought the fish were reasonably healthy and they quite a few different kinds. Not the most expensive or rare fish but definitely pretty good. I didn't check into prices because I am from the bay area. But they told me that the JBJ distributor was giving them hell because they were selling the tanks for too cheap. The coral looked pretty good I thought and they said they grew a lot of their coral themselves. If I were from down here, I would definitely go there for stuff. They said they've been there for years. I was impressed

They dont grow their own corals unless they have another facility that they do it in. Their livestock is always changing. Most of them are imported. I know because I've been there many times because I eat at a resturant near them (Kimtar, they have good chow fun with black bean sauce).

They do have good prices, but you have to use your judgement on if you want to do buisness with this store. They are shady and will tell you anything to sell their products. Also pay in cash. They double charge some people. Almost half my friend that purchased items there were charged twice. When you go back to the store for a refund, they only give you store credit so you have to purchase more of their stuff. You have to go through your credit card company to get a refund.

They where fair on a AquaPod 24 I was going to buy from them.
Just to far away to drive, found it locally for just a few dollars more.
Talk to Eric, he seemed to be cool, just VERY bizzy with phone calls and store op.

I went there on sat 7/1/06 and bought the 12 g nano cube for $119+tax. There was no "catch". The fish looked ok and the corals looked good. I did not ask about prices because I am from the bay area and wasn't going home till 7/2/06. They have two big coral tanks ~250 gallons each and it was pretty impressive. They said they're distributor or JBJ was upset at them for selling the JBJ's at such a low price. If I lived in Socal, I would make it there more often. They were okay people too. Laverda is right, it is not that big of a store, but considering the place and the amount of fish and corals they have, it's pretty good.

Has anyone seen there big acrylic tanks at their store? I'm looking into buying one of their 120"x48"x32" tanks and need to know if the tank looks well built, ie good seems, smooth edges, truly 1" thick materials, ect..
Thanks
Sean

Sean they dont have tanks in stock... they are made to order outside the store...at least thats what people have posted.. otherwise i would have gone down there for you...

Thanks Gabriel. I'm still waiting to hear back from Scott on this big tank. I'll pursue these guys out by you only if Scott says its too big for him.

I also live close by, and went there 7/3. I printed out there price's and I picked up a medium sized cleaner shrimp for $8.99 and plate coral for $12.00 as advertised. It's a really small store and messy, but the coral seemed healthy and the fish also looked good. They also kept my print out, apparently the owner keeps track of them.

They told me they were phasing out there fresh water and do salt almost exclusively. They had a HUGE tank in the store that someone dropped $4k deposit but bailed out, it's up for sale. It's a bow front but like 8 feet tall and about 8 wide. They also said they are looking for a new location with more space, if they meant it or not only they know.

They also had a pair of black clowns, if anyone is looking. Iรƒยขรขโ€šยฌรขโ€žยขm not an expert I can't give any species info but they looked cool. I like the black body with the orange ring around the eye. If I didn't already have a pair of perc's I would have picked them up. I would buy from again, just have to print out the price list again. I would imagine it's tough being a LFS in this area, there are like 7 within 5 miles of each other.

They have horrible customer service but they have really good prices on there fish and a pretty awesome 600 gallon reef and fish tank. But for the most part I'd have to give them a C-

I just got back from there & here is my observation................

- not the cleanest of fish stores, but I've yet to see one that is clean enough IMO
- nice, healthy coral tanks
- fish looked healthy...........there was a dead wrasse in one tank, but what fish store hasn't had a dead fish in thier tank
- lots of Jebo crap
- Owner went out of his way to welcome me & anwser any questions I had

Maybe these guys got a bad rap before, but I'd go back there.........

Here's some examples of prices the owner quoted me

3' x 3' x 12" brand new drilled frag tank (either 7/16" or 1/2" glass)....$199 (it was sitting outside & I asked about the price)

I asked about the $8.99 yellow tangs & the owner told me he was out. I asked him about a 3" yellow & he told me $11.99!!! Never seen a tang that cheap before

Small clown triggers - $21.99...........lots of 'em...........looked very healthy too!!

He even offered me a 3" purple tang for $24.99..............this is a $60 fish at any other LFS..........

Told me I could buy any tank at the price on the flyer without buying the glass top....

Overall I was very satisfied w/ the store.................They definately would have my business again & I'm a hard customer to please!!!!

Steve :D

I went there and got good service and came back with a nice candy hog for 20. I would go back but it's too far but then again they have kimtar close by (seafood chow fun yummy):D

Ya, it's further south on Pioneer..................it's next to a restaurant, but unless you are looking for the exact address, you won't find it.................

their addy is 18343 Pioneer BL Artesia, California 90701 and if i remember correctly it's in the "Pioneer Plaza" hope that help

ya like I said great prices, I am a bit suprised on the customer service though. I go there strickly for there prices. I bought a rock with 9 small yellow ricordia's on it for $35. Also they were selling there Mandarin Gobies for $6

Like I said before they are not bad people just need direction and support from use reefers. Last time I was there they admit to know knowing a lot about reef but was very willing to hear what I had to say.
