Anyone every use Real Reef Rock?

I bought a little at a LFS when I started up and didn't know any better. I see no benefit to the rock that can't be achieved with better rock.

I just used marco rock for my 250 build. This is the 3rd tank I set up and I couldn't be happier with the product. It stacks great and its priced right. I added a few piece of live rock to help color up the base rock. I would never use all live rock again. To expensive, unwanted pests, and doest always stack easy. Hope that helps you out.

Saw some at my LFS yesterday...seems to me that the purple paint plugs up a lot of the small pores that make rock a good bio filter...IMHO, FWIW, etc...

I don't like it. Looks fake until it gets covered with coralline and algae... too dense....

Marco rocks or BRS dry rock is better...

Thank you!! I am ripping down my tank due to a aptaisia outbreak which has been a two year battle. They are growing in the sump in the sand everywhere. I don't want to introduce pests again so that is why I want to use it. I have two pieces of live rock I through in the backyard and the rest of them to follow very soon. Going to seed the dead sandbed, used dead rock and real reef. I want my hobby and my life back. LOL!

not worth the extra $ for it...I tried a 5-6 lb rock when it was first introduced and still have it, but it quickly became covered in corraline algae and looks like any other piece of LR....

Is this stuff a cement product or some type of resin?
I thought it was a cement like product, but I don't know.

Is it really more expensive than real live rock?

Don't know if the price came down, but when it first came out it was about $8-9 a lb...tried it to see if it would hold that nice blue color...it doesn't.

I don't know what had me thinking that it was a lower price option. Am I right in thinking that it's some type of cement?

It appears to be arago-rock with imitation coralline.
Nothing wrong with the arago-rock part, it's a proven alternative.
I'm unsure about the imitation coralline though.
Probably nothing to be concerned with.
I don't see any reason why this rock wouldn't do what it's supposed to.

Quotes from the website
http://realreefrock.com/how-it-is-made-and-grown

"Real Reef is composed of several different types of mineral aggregates and sand. Some are very similar to high end media used in modern Calcium Reactor dosing systems. Real Reef is high in Calcium Carbonate, with amounts in the 82-85% range. Unlike coral skeleton which is primarily Calcium Carbonate, Real Reef contains a variety of essential trace elements and minerals. This remaining 15-18% consists of minerals and trace elements such as: Magnesium, Strontium and Iron.

"Real Reef's beautiful shades of Purple, Pink and Red come from a water based non-toxic natural pigment. These proprietary pigments are injected and applied through several techniques and processes."
