My apex is on the fritz so I need to send mine in for repair. I figured I would throw it out there and see if anyone has a extra main unit they could rent me so I don't have to buy a new one.
It sucks cause they kind of have me by the balls. I have their auto feeder, dos pumps, wav powerheads, 1link etc. so now to move to another controller I need to get a new dosing pump, new powerheads, a different auto feeder, another power strip and somehow find time to pull all of it off and setup a new system in one day.
It really really does.. It just sounds like far too much work selling off all my apex stuff, learning a new system, setting it up etc etc. Plus its not cheap.
yes, but that doesn't include that I would need to get new powerheads since the ghl wouldn't run the Neptune wav's I have(and really really like), I would need to get a new doser and also a new auto feeder.
granted I could sell my stuff to make up some of the price difference but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be out of pocket some and the additional cost would still be in the several hundreds of dollars since you don't ever see deals on ghl cards/module/dosers etc.
Add to that they don't even START shipping till the 19th and I am sure it would be several weeks after that till I received one.
What a bummer. I gotta say it probably makes sense to not have all your devices compatable only with one controller. Your kind of stuck with Apex unless you want to spend what appears to be significant dollars besides the controller to buy circulation pumps and dosing pumps. Maybe you can brake even with buying a new classic apex at a discount and selling it when you get the other one fixed or atleast close maybe loosing $50-$100.
Apex will sell me a new base unit for a discount so I think I am going to do that and then have them fix mine and keep it as a backup. If I have anymore issues Ill start getting ready to move over to the profilux 4.
If I had my way I would run the profilux with vortech pumps if for no other reason than pure aesthetics.
Here soon I will be moving to a calcium reactor so that will allow me to move on from the dos pumps and I guess I will just use the eheim auto feeder.
What's wrong with your unit? Mine's been wacko lately and I'm in the same situation as you. I hate this single point of failure with an unreliable product.
What's the best way to get tech support? I filled out their web page help request and never heard from them.
I just called them. what actually happened with mine was a spot wore through on the temp prob and was touching the metal housing for the ph prob.
I purchased a new apex and will be starting fresh because I want to utilize two ph probs for a calcium reactor and monitor salinity etc. Plus it cleans things up a lot having a 1 link built in considering I am running the wav pumps.
Going forward I think I am going to get rid of a lot of the things that depend on the apex though, that way its easier to plug everything into regular powerstrips in the event of a controller failure. Swap the Neptune auto feeder for a ehiem, the wav powerheads for mp40's and I just sold the Dos and purchased a lifereef calcium reactor with aquarium plants carbon doser.
