Anyone have a frickin laser and want to kill some aiptasia?

I'll look into that, thanks DgenR8. I bought a few peppermint shrimp hoping they'd get some of them but haven't even seen them since I put them in the tank about a week ago. I know they're hit or miss.

lol. Pepps are hit or miss mostly due to where they come from, I think it is something like atlantic or pacific, Jorell usuually gets the aptasia eating ones at club reef.

Id be worried about the filefish nipping coral when it was done with the aptasia, although I hear its less of an issue if you do a lot of small feedings to keep them from getting hungry.

Does the laser trick work?

Has to be a high powered laser, not the kind they typically sell at the local stores. I think they are around 1000mW or 1watt

Sorry, only laser I have is attached to my shark.

I had luck with a Kleins Butterfly a few years back. I didn't have much for coral at the time, as I know the jury is still out about how reef-safe they are.......or are not....

Good luck

The lasers work much better on majanos than aiptasia from personal experience. The aiptasia is usually able to retract into the rock where you can't get with the laser unless your rock is very flat.

I appreciate the responses. I got some aiptasia x and got a bunch tonight. I know I'll keep finding more I missed throughout the week though. But seemed to work well so far.

Mine doesn't bother anything, but if he did, he'd be very easy to catch. I feed my tank from a net, none of my fish are afraid of it, they actually "run" to it. If I needed that Filefish out, it would be no problem. I've accidentally netted him a bunch of times while feeding.

lol ok thats good to know about them, most online resources say it 50/50 if they nip but I assume if you keep em fat and happy it is less of an issue.

Incapearl, my bergia just finished clearly out the aiptashia in my tank last night. If you want to come out to Peoria you can suck a couple out of my tank before they die and give them a new home. Only thing is the peppermint shrimp might eat them. Send me a PM if you are interested.
