Anyone have an inwall tank with a flatscreen above it?

I'm building a house and have an area in the family room for a tank. I like things symmetrical so would want the tank in the middle of the wall. Right now it is drawn in the corner, but I don't know how I would like it.

Does anyone have any pics of a large tank with a flatpanel TV above it? I'd like to see how it looks.

I'll try to post a pic of the great room to show you what I have to work with. I'll have to move a closet around a bit to put it in the middle of the wall.

There was a thread a while back here in the LT forum where a guy had two tanks in wall with a large screen TV above it. I've not seen an up date in some time on the thread. I'll search my subscriptions and see if I can pull it up.

Seen a house on MTV cribs show that had a tank above and another below a flatscreen TV. It looked great. Were talking big tanks in wall. The only thing is wouldn't the Aquariums take away from whats on TV. I think so.... ;)

I've tried to find some images on google, but haven't seen any. It might take away from the TV or the other way around. I was thinking of doing the same dimensions as the TV and putting molding around both. The other area for it is in the corner but Im not sure about the location.

An 82inch LCD would be just over 6ft in width....a 180 gallon would be the same width. I'm not sure about the height, but the TV should be taller. My wife would love it if I didn't have to buy another tank and could use the one I already have.

i have 300 in wall with 2 tv on the side

Why not look thru the tank to view the TV!! Just scape two slopes one on the left and one on the right and the center open to watch the tube! Imagine...... The back fish room lights off, The Big Game, all the boys over and ???? Dude were is the TV? Then you reply my bad... and with a smooth smile and click the game is on! That is the story I told my wife 10 years ago and LOL she still asks were is the TV?

I have a 50 in above my 220 the tank is not in the wall but the addition was designedd around this but the wall was not thick enough to put it into the wall there would have not been enough room to access it from 3 sides. I will try to get a picture later today for you. My wife said I could get a large salt water tank when doing our house over if she had a large tv. I bought her a 50in plasma and then got the deal on the 220 and brought it home. I would have gone larger if we had the room.

I would really appreciate it. How do you like the set up?

Just a personal opinion: put the tank and TV on totally separate walls. I know for myself that I much prefer the TV at eye-level when I'm sitting down as opposed to staring up at an angle. Both objects are visual focal points, so they should be set to compliment, not compete, with each other. YMMV

I would not have it any other way. We have 3 systems in the house this one a 92 gallon corner and a red sea max. This on is my first choice not because of its size but for a few reasons you can have it set a mood to the room instead of watching tv or the most important if you wife takes over the tv then you watch the tank instead of lifetime! Also this is set up in our bedroom so its much more enjoyable for the fact I see it daily 2 times at min so I can see if something is wrong.

I have often thought of putting a tank in under our flat screen in the bedroom.

Question - is there any concern about humidty/salt creep and the like with an aquarium under the TV with regards to the electronics (aquarium not built in the wall in this instance?)

mine is 16 in above the tank and is fine. I run mh lighting and open top tank. There is enough air in the room we have no issues.
