Anyone have an ORP monitor?

Wow crazy i thought rubbermaid would be the best plastic to use, i use rubbermaid for my makeup water. Good luck in finding the problem, i think once you get your no3-po4 in check you will be ok. If you need anything be sure to ask good luck.

You know, Rubbermaid is a great plastic to use, but it needs to food safe plastic that's used. If you use some shoe storage box or something else, it may not be the corrrect grade and could possibly cause issues.

RHF talks about the different plastics in the Reef Chemistry Forum.

Very true, the only rubbermaid stuff i use is for my make up water. If you really want to use a rubbermaid frag tank or sump/fuge i think you can order them online. I know a couple of people who use them without an issue.

Ok, I updated my thread in the chemistry forum but I'll chime in here too.

Swapped the rubbermaid out for a 20L from pet smart (on sale $23). 18 hours later, my pH is up from its normal morning low of 7.88 to 8.07. I'm thinking that it was some of the bacteria that was consuming O2. It never looked like regular cyano to me - it was almost a cross between cyano and diatom. Ended up doing a water change of sorts (dumped about 10G and replaced it with 20G) hopefully that will knock the nitrates down below 20.

Nice it should, and i think you will have better luck now. I wouldnt worry about PH to much i think to many people worry about there PH. Mine is always low mine will hardly ever reach 8.00 but yet everything grows and colors up just fine. As long as alk is steady i dont worry about PH.

Damn... still running about 35ppm nitrates, so no frags coming home this weekend. I got some poly filter and AZ-NO3, it'll be here friday. It's personal now. If I can't get the tank running within params I think I'll go insane.

Becareful with the AZ-NO3 take your time with it i personally never used it, but it can get ugly if not followed closly. So are you sayin your NO3 went up alittle bit. Make sure you change your filters often, as they can leak some trates in your tank.

No, it's just hovering between the colors of 20 and 40 on the API. I'm partially colorblind, so it makes it really hard for me to tell.

I'm still changing water, but not seeing a drop. I'm not feeding much other than mysis, so I think it's leaching from the rock (which is a good thing).

I don't have any filters to change, the poly filter is more or less just to see if there are heavy metals or something weird in the tank too. AZ-NO3 isn't like dosing carbon, it bonds the nitrates to ??? and your skimmer removes it. I'm hoping that by the time the nitrates reach zero, my sulfur reactor will be kicked in and I won't need more than 1 bottle.

I agree its probably stuck in your rock, and i wouldnt worry about getting your NO3 down to zero, its good to have alittle no3 present just not anything above 5. I keep mine around 2.5 or so with a po4 around 0.03 (hanna), and it will help to keep things colorful (well helps my sps anyways). You will get them down it will just take some time probably in the next couple of weeks they will drop.

Welp, unfortunatly my Yellow Tang 'Bert' didn't make it. Finally got the bacterial bloom from the AZ-NO3, but he must have been weak from the scarce feeding and low O2 in the tank. I've had him for almost 5 years, and he was my daughters favorite.

My maroon clown and the refugee Jeweled Damsel are still looking fine, and feeding. Tank is pretty cloudy, and the skimmer is going nuts - all was expected. I have a mag5 with a venturi line blowing in oxygen to help, but I don't expect it to clear up for a few more days. Corals seem unaffected....
