just wondering if anyone has any caulerpa they are looking to sell and would ship to NW iowa as i have tried cheato 5 times and every time it melts away so looking to try something diff.
anyone have caulerpa

holy crap lol well i have tried cheato 5 diff. times and never had luck getting it to grow. tried adding iron, diff. bulbs diff. flow and still nothing. any other ideas on a macro to grow?
also wouldn't a yellow tang eat it?

This may sound like a dumb question, but you do have light over the cheato right?
I don't do anything special to my cheato and I have to thin it out every few months or it will completely fill up my refugium (40 breeder). I don't have a whole lot of light over the cheato, but I do have it on a inverse lighting cycle to my main tank.
I tend to feed more than I probably should... Is your water quality really pristine? Maybe there aren't enough nutrients in your tank for the macro algea to grow?
Also, when I first setup my tank and didn't know much (not that I know that much now) I bought a rock that I thought was cool that had some caulerpa on it and another person gave me some grape caulerpa. It didn't take long before it was everywhere in my display tank and it was VERY hard to get rid of with all the little "runners" that it sends into the rock and sand. I'd avoid it...
BTW, my Tangs (yellow and blue) don't have any interest in eating cheato.

yes i do have light over the fuge. i have tried all diff. types from the bulb melev suggests to PC's to the 65k spirial bulb from homedepot. and have run them from 12 hours a day to 24 hours a day.
i wish my water was very pristine lol I have no detectiable phos. but that is using a salifert kit (whish i had a chlorimeter) but nitrates read 10-20 ppm and can't get them any lower

wow that really don't seem like something i would want. sorry to hear about your tank.
would their be anything else i could try to get my cheato to grow or a diff. type of macro that would work just as good?

I have really pretty bad luck with chaeto in my main tank with VHO lighting but it's got to be the lighting because in my connected refugium all I run is a little 60 watt grow lamp from lowes and the chaeto grows like mad.
As for caulerpa, if you're looking for something that a tang might keep in check for you I'd definitely look at the miniature type grape caulerpa, my tang loves it, but when I have enough he doesn't get around to decimating it.
If you have a tang and don't want him to eat your caulerpa, get sawblade caulerpa, my tang won't touch the stuff. I'm sure roughage preference varies by tang type but mine is a medium yellow tang and that's what I've gathered from him so far.
