Anyone have experience with psk-2500 pumps or have two for sale?

I have two psk-2500 skimmer pumps that I cannot get working properly for the life of me and I can't figure it out. I was hoping maybe someone here has experience with them and could lead me in the right direction to get them working or if someone might have one they are looking to get rid of

They turn on, very low flow (not like before) will not make microbubbles even with airtube clear, and do not have a broken shaft

I wonder if they are spinning backwards. If you continuously unplug and plug the pumps. Will they eventually work right?

If you can't find them locally a next option could be ebay they cost an arm and a leg sadly I had to buy a psk 500 I believe? It's a small pump.

I will try plugging and unplugging and see what happens. How would I check to see if they are spinning backwards?

And they are :/ I looked them up online. I am hoping these pumps can work properly again
Do you know any pumps that would perform the same as the psk-2500 that I could use instead?

You could order a spare shaft. Or contact the company you got it from. Maybe the new shaft would help.

Maybe dumb question but when mine do this its cause they need to be cleaned. I soak in vinegar for 24hours and then et a toothbrush to every nook and cranny. Coincidentally doing it now. :)

I have done that, but doing it again now as a just in case. I am also considering changing the mesh to see if it would help

Making sure the Volute is correctly seated is also a must.

BTW- as I was cleaning mine yesterday I found that my ceramic shaft is broken. Tried a few places last night with no luck finding a replacement. I'm going to keep checking this weekend but if I don't find, I'm just ordering a PSK 1000. I hear it took the place of the 2500, but apparently better designed.

The Volute is the thing that turns on the inlet side. Sometimes it does not sit right on the o-ring and it must be tightened all the way.

Thanks I'll try your link just to have a spare since I already pulled the trigger and ordered the 1000.

No worries and it is always good to have a spare. Im almost at the point of just ordering two psk 1000s. It is for an older bubble master 250 originally ran by two psk 2500 pumps. Do you know if the housing of the psk 1000s are the same size as the psk 600s? And would the psk 1000 improve the skimmer's functionality vs the psk 600 (I know the 600s are closest to the 2500s in gph)?

And might be a stupid question, but is there an air inlet piece on the psk 1000? I have been looking at pictures/ reading about it, but nowhere have I seen a piece in which to attach airline tubing so it is connected to air like on the psk 2500 for example.

I've heard of some using just one PSK 1000 and plugging the other hole. Don't talk my work for it, look it up here on RC. In the search area look up PSK 2500 vs 1000 pumps tr something to that effect. Also there is an MSX skimmer thread (that's what I have), that has lots of ideas also.

As far as PSK 1000 having air inlet/Venturi, look at Avast Marine. That's where I got mine. Good price and has venturi and some other gadget I won't need but bay be answers you questions.

Tunze AeroFoamer will be a good replacement as well and it's the ONLY one with a strainer before the Venturi (also included) which prevents a lot of problems from debris getting sucked into the pinwheel/meshwheel/needlewheel. Tunzeusa.com is where you find them and if youre gonna order, please lmk to split shipping :)

ANother nice replacement pump that should be an almost exact swap is the Aquatrance AQ-3000S which is Reff Octopus branded and mad by Honya CO makers of the Water Blaster and the Bubble Blaster.
Those you can find a little cheaper than the Psk-2500 , PSK1000 and TUnze .
AeroFoamer.

I hope this helps.

Just looked at them on avast marine, thank you. It's strange though, I thought all psk 1000 pumps were male, but the one in the pic on their site is female like the psk 2500. If I do go through with it, I think I am going to order it from them so I don't have to mess around with purchasing an air inlet after the fact.

I'm researching the tunze aerofoamer now as well as the other pumps you mentioned. It does help, thank you very much. Is it also called the tunze hydrofoaner or is that a different pump? And if I do go with tunze, will do!

I'll let you know if it's male or female. I would have a similar issue. But my PSK 2500 is female but came with a n adapter. I'm sure that's all it would take.

If it's a 8" diameter skimmer body. I'd see if there is a way to add a bubble blaster 2000 or 3000 and be done.

Tango- Just installed the PSK 1000. It's a beast!!!!!!!, But totally silent. Loving it so far.

Yes pump is male and the adapter they send you in thread to slip, so I had to get an pvc coupling, thread to thread, from Lowes ($0.70). The Venturi air inlet works perfectly.

I ordered two and they just got here!! And they are amazing. Had to do the same thing as you with the pvc coupling, but they work so much better than the 2500s and avast Marine is great as well, they are really fast. Thank you for recommending them to me
