anyone have / had this skimmer?

Thats a good skimmer, I have the pro 300 and love it. I have zero issues with the construction or performance of this skimmer.

it says that i would need to buy an additional pump to go with it, what would i be looking for as far as that goes?

thanks :)

What size are you setting up? It depends on the total volume of your system how fast you run the water through it. Most people use a small pump like a Maxi-Jet to feed smaller skimmers. I have a Mag7 but only use about half the flow of it though the skimmer and the other half goes to the 140g fuge. The slower you feed it the longer contact time you get. More contact time equals more poopy stuff removed.
If you go too slow it won't turn over all the water often enough though.

You won't need to feed it with a needlewheel pump. The air will be added by the recirculating pump.
The only thing I see that might change my mind is that the Mag2 (without needwheel) uses 24 watts for 250gph while the Maxi-Jet 900 uses 8.5 watts for 230 gph. The maxi-jet parts are a lot cheaper and they are quieter too. I would rather have a $19 maxi-jet than a $40 mag2 that uses more electricity and is louder :)

Just my opinion. Only trying to help.

no problem i am open to all suggestions especially if they save me money! :D

i wasnt sure if i needed something more like a bigger pump, or a powerhead. i actually have a couple maxi-jets in the basement, and i have a 1200 on my remora. i look around down there and see what i have. i recently bought about 20 new powerheads in a local auction, so i may not need to buy one.

the site stated 1.5 times your total system volume. 150x1.5=225 gph

a Maxijet 900 (230 gph) will work. Remember, you're not trying to blast a lot of water through there. The advantage you have with a re-circ is the control over the flow rate being independent from the foam generating pump.

I agreen with Kevin, small MJ is all you need.

Sheesh Alix, you seem to come across all kinds of great deals! LoL first you tell me about that $1 GSP rock, and now 20 powerheads at an auction?

Awesome!

From marinedepot website on Euro-Reef recirc skimmers...
"All RC models are designed for in sump or external use!! A separate water feed pump is required. A feeding pump rated at 1 to 1.5 (maximum) times the system`s volume is recommended."

So you are right on track with 200 gph. Maybe a Maxi-jet 600 (160gph) would be best for your application. or put a small ball valve on a 1200 to restrict it to about 200 gph. A 1200 run 295gph so that is almost 2 times your total volume. That's why I suggest slowing them a bit.
A MJ900 is 230gph and that would be 1.53 times your volume. I think that might be your perfect pump

its mostly my mom. she surfs the local auctions for good stuff. i should have clarified that though. i said new powerheads, but they are only new to me. lol. theyre used, but at least they work and thats all i care about. i actually got a ton of stuff that day, including a 75, 55, 2 new canister filters, about 30 #s of LR, and about 50 other filters, heaters, skimmers, etc all for under $50. that was an awesome day.

alright, ill look around for a smaller maxi 900, or something similar. if worst comes to worst ill buy a new one. theyre cheap. lol.

thanks everyone! =)
