Anyone have Isocrysis or other phyto?

Is anyone around here culturing their own phyto other than nannochloropsis? I've got plenty of that, but I would like to start another culture of a different algae that has a higher DHA percentage. I didn't think of it until now, but I made an order from Florida Aqua Farms that has already shipped.

If nobody around here is culturing other algaes, do the LFS around here carry it? I don't think I've ever seen it, but I haven't really looked. I'm open to other ideas besides Isocrysis, but that would probably be my top choice.

My T-Iso crashed, due to neglect.

I was able to successfully keep a culture going for quite some time. I don't have my Wittenrich book at home here, but I do remember that it has a slightly different salinity preference than Nanno, (of course I can't remember if it's higher or lower!). I'm sure the info from FAF will tell you about it.

I was hoping you still had your culture going Scott. I did purchase Wittenrich's book (thanks for suggesting it btw, it's awesome). I'll check into the different requirements. I also have the Florida Aqua Farms culture manual. It's kind of a boring read, but has A LOT of information on rotifers, brine shrimp, and phyto.

I'm not that strict with my nanno culturing. I don't sterilize, and I harvest less than I should, but it's still going strong.

I just got an email back from FAF. My order has already been shipped, so I can't just add onto it. I'll have to make another order from somewhere if nobody has it locally. Thanks for the West Mariculture link.

I kept up with a handful of different strains for about two years for research and to have available for people. But found no interest from local hobbyists at all.

yeah. I probably wouldn't be interested much, but I'm looking for another strain of phyto for my rotifers, and hopefully copepod breeding. Nanno just isn't the best. A combination of t-iso and nanno would be awesome.

I agree. Nano is just one of the stronger and easier to raise. My comment was to answer your question about lfs selling pure strains of Phyto, aside from brand name bottled stuff.
