I like this fish, I had a pair adapting well, I think they were gaining weight, they were thinner when I got them. Eating well especially algae/nori.But went on vacation for a week, and had someone watch tank and both died. All other fish are fine. They were here for about 7 weeks. Parameters are good, running NoPox. Other inhabitants: 2clowns, Square back Anthisis, six line and melanarus wrasses, pajama cardinals, jawfish. Any discussion would be helpful.

They almost always come in very thin and usually die because they don't eat enough. Going on vacation is tricky in this hobby and usually when something happens either with equipment or fish. They are listed as difficult and the live up to it.

They and the related zebra tangs are tough. I have had a zebra for about a year and it is still thin. Eats like the proverbial pig but never seems to put on much bulk. Feed a lot!!!!!

What is their story? Is it that they are not getting enough nutrition from the food we typically use in home aquarium? I was actually considering one but it was also going to be the only algae consumer in the tank thinking less competition, more available, and recovery time for regrowth. That and establish a refugium with some macro algae from ipsf for more natural food vs. dried.
