Anyone have success with Lamarck & corals?

I've been reading all the threads where people are reporting their lamarck angel is nipping their acans & such. It's got me wondering, has anybody had a good experience with this fish & coral or does this fish always turn?

My LFS has a nice one, but I'd like to know that they're still most likely to leave the corals & clams alone. I thought is was a small chance they'd be a problem, but lately it seams they're always an issue.

Please share your possitive experiences and include how long you've had them with what corals/clams.

I had one for years with all types of corals with no issues... But with any angels you never know

Did you happen to have acans or clams? I don't have any Brian corals, so I'm not worried about them.

No acans but open brains and fleshy lps and also had a deresa clam

I know you are asking about Lamarck, but I have a Bellus Angel without any Issues at all...

I haven't seen many complaining about Bellus, there just so much more expensive. But they are gorgeous.

I have a Watanabe pair and no problem. I think this genus is reef safe. They pick food from the water column.

I have had no problems with my female Lamarck's Angelfish in my reef system.
The fish has not bothered any of my corals; SPS, LPS or clams.
She has become the matriarch of the tank so she will periodically express her dominance over the other fish, but nothing serious. The other fish do fine standing up for themselves.

I picked her up last June when she was about 2" in length.
And she is now about 3"+.

Photos don't always do them justice, but yours sure does. Beautiful fish. All the replys are making me really want one.

Lamarcks are underrated angelfish for reefs and my favorites of the genicanthus species. I had one that never picked on any SPS or LPS was totally reef safe. However the only drawback was it possesed the typical large angel attitude. In a small tank they can become pretty nasty but given enough room; they will be a rather peaceful and majestic reef safe fish. Really cool looking when they hit maturity and develop the long stringers.

Enough positive feedback here, so I've got her on hold for pickup tonight. Won't know how safe she is with the corals until after QT. She came from a tank breakdown (with several other fish) from a customer that was moving, but he didn't ask if it was a reef.

Just an update. She's doing great, but I had to move my two Acan colonies. She would nip them, so the polyps started to close up. As soon as I placed clear plastic cups with holes on top, they started opening up.

So, just beware of Lamarks if you've got acans. Some of them seem to like the taste of them.

Yep, I had a female that went after one of my open brains for a bit, so it is entirely possible for it to happen, regardless of their planktivore feeding habits.

FWIW, I also had a large female ocellaris clown go after a brain once, so you never know...
