Anyone have the 70-200 2.8II?

Or at least have tried it? Thinking about taking BH's offer with their rebate before it goes off.

Is the lens worth the price they demand? How is the IS? I was told it is pretty good. Easy to take shots of moving subjects at low speeds.

Do you already own the Canon 70-200? From what I understand the new one is slightly better in every way which is saying a lot because the original is a legendary lens. Is it worth it? I don't know. Some people make their livelihood on that lens, so it is clearly worth it to them. Personally, I have bought and sold the original 70-200 twice, so for my shooting it's not.

A guy who I work with bought it and loves it, he does primarily wedding photography and says it is great for it. It's completely worth it for him, I always hear him talk about how much he likes that lens and he bought it quite a few months ago.

It wouldnt be worth it for me because I'm not getting paid regularly for photography... but for him it has already paid for itself

I have the first version and couldn't imagine getting rid of it. The new one has an updated IS system and the results people are posting show that it's even sharper than the MK I, if you like to take shots of people outdoors I'm sure it's phenomenal.

One clarification: IS can help with horizontal stabilization when panning but that is its primary benefit for shooting moving subjects. It's primary use is with static or relatively static subjects at low shutter speeds.

I have one. I use it to take pictures of my nephew's soccer games. Works great. Excellent IQ. No complaints here other than it's on the heavy side, but I got used to it.

Thanks for the replies. I only have the 24-70 as my main lens. I have a cousin's wedding to help shoot (for free) coming up. Thought it would be a good excuse to look for a nice zoom lens. Plus it would always be good to have in my bag. Something to give me more distance.

Would you recommend a 1.4 or 2x converter for this for shooting wildlife? Do these have any negative impacts on lens performance?

Canon is supposed to release the new 1.4 and 2 x teleconverters in December. I'm waiting for the new ones. They can only be used on certain lenses, you loose light, and I think you may loose AF on certain lenses.
