Anyone have the guts, tools and experience to frag a chalice?

I have a green with yellow mouthed chalice i got about a year ago. It has grown to about the size of a coffee cup saucer and is starting to grow over my other chalices.

I want to frag it down to a more reasonable size but dont have the guts or tools for it(at least i dont think so,lol).

Anyone with experience with fragging a chalice that would be willing to help me out for a nice size frag of it?

Just take it outside and throw it like a frisbee up into the air. Make sure it lands on concrete and it should break into some nice frags. :D

lol J/K

I know people who do this with zoanthids on tiles and once the zoanthids grow all over it they take it outside and drop it on concrete to make many frags.

I wish I knew how to frag up a chalice because I want that nice sized frag of it. :)

If you want to get precise use a dremel or roto zip tool. BTW, next Tuesday's FMAS is all about fragging. I'm sure you can get some help there.

I got my chalice frag from Amazing Reef Life Fragstravaganza. Pat used a roto zip tool to cut me exactly the size piece I wanted, here's pic after a few months.

I've heard to use a wet-saw for that kind of stuff, but after seeing how easily breakable calcium carbonate based structures are, I would say the good ol' flathead screwdriver and hammer, like a2fire2i said....

It worked for Matt, who was afraid of damaging corals, and didn't know how to frag encrusting stuff. but I showed him, and now he's a mean green encrusted-coral fragging machine!

I've got a dremel with a flex-shaft and a diamond wheel on it you can borrow if you need something for a little more precise fragging than the screwdriver method.

sufunk depending on the width of the rock u can def use a dremel with diamond wheel will do if its thin which they usaully are if not a wet saw should do.

U can just break it in half

if the rock is thin enough use heavy duty scissors, you run the risk of overheating the coral using a dremel. I have used scissors and got nice frags, i have also used a dremel and got some dead frags.

When using any electrical tool it is good to dunk the coral into a bowl of aquarium water to help cool the coral off.

I have a dremel with a diamond tip wheel but not sure i have the guts to actually do the fragging. I guess since i have the dremel, i may give it a whirl myself, you guys are making it sound pretty easy.

couple questions though:
1) kinda dumb but if i use a dremel, i assume i should cut from the top noot the underside or does it matter?
2) what is the smallest size frags i could cut and be reasonably sure they would live? This thing has probably almost 100 mouths so i could cut really small pieces and still get mouths but i want to be sure they live. I could get mouths in pieces 1/2"x1/2" but is that small reasonably safe?

Sounds good. If you need any help just give me a call.
