I have been eyeing on a brand new Nikon D300, but for $1800 a pop, I need do some research before making the plunge, I currently have a D80 with a 18-200mm VR and 105mm Macro, I think a D300 will compliment well.

I know that the 3" LCD is packed with pixels and dots, can you viewed the pictures clearly under the intense sun withoud placing any kind of shield on to block the light off.

Thanks for your inputs.

Main interest for this camera would be high iso noise performance. It is said to beat many others. I held one with the 70-200 VR on it and it just felt great. focusing and metering are imoproved, faster frame rate than your D80. much better built quality. Banding issues that seemed to be present with D200 are said to be solved. Self cleaning CCD by vibrations I guess. Don't know how efficient that is but I would say it would be a much better alternative to other methods on the field. Overall some people say that this camera is even better than the D2xs which was the existing No 1 pro camera in the Nikon lineup till the D300 and D3 (the new top of the line in the Pro Nikon bodies) came out. I would say that with higher end Metering and focusing it should be better to get a D300 instead of a D2xs but still I would think that the built quality of the D200 would be much better.
In the end I would wait a bit till the issues of this body are out. We should have heard if serious issues were found by this time but still there is no trend of problems on this body and it looks very promising. also waiting can be a good thing as eventually prices would drop down a bit.
