I have lived in Florida ALL MY LIFE and have never been scuba diving. I really want to go and enjoy all the marine life. I live about 30 minutes west of Orlando. I don't have any gear. If anyone knows anywhere I can go, or anyone that would take me and probably a friend out, that would be awesome. I want to go before I move in June. Thanks:)

The diving is awesome on the other coast of Fla.I lived in West Palm for 20 years and man do i miss the diving.I actually think West Palm south to FT Lauderdale is better diving than the Keys.Look up Jim Abernethys Scuba Adventures.Hes in West Palm and runs an awesome certification program and dive outfit.Im hoping the economy comes back very soon down there and im packing my bags!Good Luck!

Alright, thanks! :D and yeah, same here! I wanna go so bad, I'm moving sometime before August and would be very upset if I couldn't dive before I left:/

I have heard that the diving in florida is awesome. One of these days I need to save up and drive down from South Carolina to make a weekend of diving. Let me know of some good places.

Diving in Florida is one of the greatest dives. Spiegel grove is the coolest ship! I've done over 15 dives in the area, all of which were amazing.

Yes. Even if you didn't have to be you would want to be. There is a lot to it and down there is a place you don't want to have anything go wrong.

Do you have any idea how awesome the diving off your shores are?

Diving is AMAZING!!! I've logged just under four days of underwater time, and probably 3.9 of those days were in Florida waters. It's underappreciated how nice our reef system is. It's definitly worth a trip to visit. One hint: get off the beaten path. If you know someone with a boat who likes to dive go with them. Commercial dive boats are good and all, but they go to the same sites, which are the most visited. A personal favorite for this area is Finks Grouper Hole. I've seen sharks, rays, groupers, turtles, and eels all on the same dive at Finks. BTW, here a teaser of what the diving is like!

Yes, It is illegal to borrow some one equipment if they are not certified. Thats why you need your card to get tank fills. Cant dive with no air!

Actually it's not illegal, just incredibly stupid ;) Certifications are all about the industry self policing and keeping gov't out of it :)
