Anyone interested in 8-Switch Power Center?

NICE!! So much cleaner than power strips, too bad it doesnt offer surge protection. So you got it for $10 less than what they sell it for on the site?

My experience with the American DJ power centers, in particular the one you just purchased is that the switches often fail and the wiring is too thin. I've had the wiring inside those things melt away at work (I work in the Audio Industry). I wouldn't plug your lights or chiller into it. Some people will probably tell you they've had no problems, but it will eventually come when you least expect it. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, just an FYI.

I paid $30+tax and free delivery for two of them. How'd you get $20? Coulda been worth drive to Sherman Oaks for $20 and instant gratification :)

I went into the store in Brea which I knew one of the managers. He told me that they have a minimal selling price of $27. However, there was something that he does to break that off.

Keep in mind that sometimes I do purchase equipment. Perhaps this is the reason that he is doing this for me.

Thanks for your information. I've checked with other products and this seems to be what most people like.

By the way, IsaaX, since you are working in the Audio industry, do you know if there are anyone that can do a cabling job for me? I need someone that can pull a 150' snake via the current path. There are also some other video jobs that I have and I need to contract them out too. Let me know if you have anyone that can do audio or video. The job site is in Buena Park.

Thanks.

I'm half deaf so I don't do audio anymore, but I may have leads for you. How technical are these audio jobs? Just laying prebuilt cable to a diagram? Soldering custom patch bays and cables? Ringing out a room? Ground-up reinforcement design and project management?

BigElephant,

Yeah that is the most commonly used. I'm not saying to not use it, just stating my experience with them. I personally wouldn't use it in my new tank set up hehe (AC Jr).

As for your cabling, I "used" to know someone, but he became flakey. We haven't needed anything done so we haven't looked for a guy. If you need Data and Electrical runs I know someone who is really good heh. His crew just added two circuits in my house for my tank and were fast and smooth.

I use these power strips with individual switches. Does it have enough surge protection for 150w mh, a few pumps, fans and heater? Only have a 20 gallon mini reef.

Hey sweet strip. 320 Joules for Surge protection is pretty low compaired to other brands at the same price range or cheaper that has a rating 3-4 times more. I guess it's a give an take, those switches are cool! You'll be fine using that strip, it just won't supress as much as others would.

Wow, I see what you mean. Found one for the same price with 1500 joules (5x). Good thing I got it on sale and wanted it more for the switches. Surge protection was just a bonus.

Thanks for the response.

My exeperience agrees with Isaxx on the American DJ model.

It can handle my pumps, powerheads, skimmer, etc,
but when I plug my lights into it, it fails via its cheapy fuse.

I've since run my lights from an independent power socket to my main timer.

Build your own out of 12-2 wire and house outlets, and a piece of plywood...Much better and can actually handle the amperage. Check my gallery for pics.

I have it!! :D got it from Guitar Center also (Sherman Oaks) Funny because right next to it is Aquarium Center

It looks really slick when installed on a panel, along with other controls...
