Anyone interested in Rainbow Acans?

To the guys that were interested in the Rainbow Acans before:

I wasn't planning on heading out to meet the guy until next month some time, but the Cleveland club meets next week. So if enough people are interested, I'll make the drive out for the meeting, and pick them up next Friday night.

He's asking $40 per polyp, and he's only counting full polyps.

Here are the pictures (under T5 lighting)... let me know if it is something you would be interested in.

Thanks.

Hey Matt, do some research on Rainbows before posting. Otherwise you'll end up looking more foolish than usual.

There isn't one "Rainbow Acan" and nice variations can go upwards of $80 per polyp.

im just telling you what jeff told me 25 or 35 pending on color. so dont start please.never said it was the same coloration saying they are geting them in to also check there trying to give you a heads up as well.

Those look very nice Tswifty, wish I could spend money on some. I've always been intrigued by acans, but never actually had enough money to buy some that I could justify as being worthwhile-Not to say your Acans aren't worthwhile. I'd like to know what the average rate is that they actually grow and divide? Like many LPS corals, even after many years of keeping them, I find it hard to actually get them to grow beyond their initial size. These Acans have the fleshy polyp on top of a carbonate skeleton, which it seems to me, just from what I've experienced, to be harder to grow than other skeletons like sps for example. It seems like there's a lot of it too which makes it seem like its a big rock-well it is I guess.

i had goten some neon orange acans from aqua world. i feed them every nite, i have 1 baby head start a week. jeff told me its based on how much you feed them so i feed mine a blend of brine and myisis shirmp every night about 1 hour after lights out when there feeding tenticals are out. and jer77 you have a pm

Acans are nice. I always was told they are slow growers, and their price was a little high for me, so I never purchased them. Anyway, Aquaworld was clearing out some, and I figured I would try them out. I spot feed them twice a week (Mysis/Cyclopeeze/Brine), and every frag has at least doubled in one month. I counted 15 new growth heads on one of them. They're actually growing so fast that I now need to mount them all onto larger rocks, because they are growing over the plug and down towards the sand.

Anyway, that has just been my experience with them... like I said... I was always told they were slow growers, but my experience has completely been the opposite. Which is why I now am looking into some of the more expensive ones.

If you're looking to get into them, I would recommend getting in touch with Jeff at Aquaworld. They may still have some of the ones they were clearing out left. That would be a nice, cheap way to test them out, and see if it's something you like and have success with.

That being said... I am always on the lookout for unusual or rare looking pieces, and try to pass on the information when I find something. As locating and getting your hands on nice pieces seems to be a battle in itself in this hobby. Actually getting them to grow after the fact (oh yeah that part  ) is a whole other ballgame.

pending on color.
Bingo...

Browse around, and you'll see that the price this guy quoted me is pretty darn good considering their color.

I would just prefer it in the future if you would only post on my threads if you are interested, or have a question that actually has something to do with the thread.

Sounds good. I'll let you know. I've asked him for pictures of the actual frags he has, as well as if he will give price breaks for purchasing frags with more polyps on them.

I'll let everyone know when he responds back to me.

Re: Anyone interested in Rainbow Acans?

He's sending me some pics tomorrow of the actual frags, but here are the prices he quoted to me on the frags below.

WYSIWYG

$80

$80 for the frag on the left... He needs to get back to me with a price for the frag on the right.

$150

Curious... how do you have any idea what color that frag actually is? Because if that picture isn't shot under actinic only, then his system is minimum 20K halides for how blue it is.

Also, we would all prefer not to have posts in our threads that dissent, but this is the internet. That just isn't going to happen. And while I'd certainly wish that the poster in question would use capital letters, make full sentences and stop using leet, he has the same right to post on the forums as the rest of us.

Good luck with your acans.

S !

Then I suggest you use the ignore feature. Nothing I posted is outside the user agreement. The poster in question has a habit of throwing my threads off track, posting useless comments, or dragging out conversations within my threads. None of which add anything worthwhile, and only serve to derail the thread from the original topic.

Now if you are actually interested in what I posted. Please comment... if not, then post elsewhere. It's really not anymore complicated than that.

I will take the second $80 frag.
Hey Jared,

Sorry, but that one is already pending sale. The first one is still available, as is the last one. Also, the guy is supposed to send me more pictures later today.

Here's a picture with no supplementation whatsoever... just 1 metal halide. I would consider the bulb in the 12k region.

I'm going to be making the trip next week sometime, this weekend is the g/f's bday... so I was told no aquarium related stuff allowed this weekend. :p

Anyway, he told me he has a bunch of Purple Death Palys as well, and is selling them for $8 a polyp.

Like I said, I'm planning on making the trip next week... Wednesday would probably be a good guess. So just let me know before then if you are interested.
