I am hoping to get material this week and make reflectors for tank this weekend or next week sometime. Anyone else interested in any? I can make them into custom sizes also. I am stretching mine to fit 2 400 halides over my 60 inch tank. I can make them thin long whatever. Depending on how much material I need to buy prob looking at 45-55 a piece and of course trades are always welcome.

This is for local pick up/swap only, please don't ask to ship.

I know that Paul (NaCLH20) was talking about buying mirrored aluminum earlier, but the place he found was in Canada and shipping was going to be prohibitive unless a few people got into it. You might want to try talking to him.

yeah i need to get some spectral aluminum.... if you do buy some let me know. i had one of these fixtures before. i believe there is a pic in my gallery. i made it by hand in one night. i now have access to a CNC machine so i would like to try to make a new one.

ps the material i used was solartubes from HD. unfortunately i don't think they carry it anymore. i was using the extension tubes which were like $25

They do still carry them but only the ten inch. You have to order the fourteen inch that would make the right size I need. I actually built one alredy using a "leather grained" aluminum. It was satin so I polished half and left other half regular. Lit it up in garage last week and it ws crazy bright. Had it in a set of 36 inch horses and it put a perfect rectangle on floor with very little light washing out to sides. That one was thirteen by thirty. will get some pics and once I get mine over tank will see how good they reflect. The leather grain seemed to diffue and soften as spposed to a mirror flat reflector that seemed to get bright spots. Not sure how much loss is involved but for me using 400 over a twenty deep tank I don't think I will have an issue.

Brian any pics of the reflector?

Are you putting these in a canopy or hanging like a pendant?

will get pics this weekend, making the 2 for mine tomorrow and hoping to get them poilshed and wired this weekend. These ones are going in canopy but they could easily have a simple housing attached over them. I actually think planter boxes are the right size, the plastic ones could easily be colored to match. I am making them with a 1/4 inch flange around edge to attach to frame or housing in case I decide to hang them.

You don't worry about temperature using that grade of plastic around MH lights?

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know how hot the reflector will get but to combat the heat you might try mounting a PC fan in the top/bottom of the planter box. Not sure if it will help where the reflector mounts to the box but it is an idea.

I was just kind of thinking out loud on what could be used to make a pendant style out of it. Also depends on the size of reflector, mine are rectangle for the long tank and that was just something that popped in my head.

Heres the pics of the ones I made this week. Didn't mount the mogul base in yet cause I have something I want to try. I also didn't crazy polish these yet, just gave them a once over with a wheel.
