Anyone keep anthias in a 55 gallon?

I have four bartletts in my 58. No agression other than the ordinairy, they have great colors, and they eat like pigs.

i had 1 lyretail in my 55g and she was fine. they can be aggressive in their territory so i wouldnt add any more(IMO).

That's great to hear, thanks! They are such beautiful fish, but I really didn't want to have to get a 125+ tank to keep them. Anyone else have any other kinds?

I think your thread should ask what kind AND how long. Could be an issue. I had my redbars for almost 3 years before selling the tank.

I've had a single Sunburst for 2+ years now in my 58, very peaceable tankmates.

IMO, with a smaller tank, I'd lean towards very mellow tankmates ... I figure with less fish stress, they do better.

I was figuring peaceful tankmates would be picked on too much. Anthias can be kind of aggresive, can't they?

Lyretail, bartlett, hutchii (sp?), redbar, bicolor can all pretty much hold their own if placed first. Dispar, fathead, lori, ventralis are pretty mellow, and usually don't do well with boisterous tankmates, even if established first, IMHO.

SDguy,

what type of anthias is that in your avatar?

I asked before in another thread but never got a reply.

I've had 3 Dispars in my tank for about 2 and a half months now and they are all eating and doing well. Dispars and Bartlett's are good choices I think. Both are rather docile and generally don't agitate anything. SDGuy brings up a good point though. Long term success varies I think. Just make sure whatever species you get is eating at the LFS before you take them home. It makes for much easier transition and they'll generally do better.

Here's a pic of my Dispars. Hope I'm not highjacking your thread.

Great advice.

No, you're okay. Anthias are what we are talking about. Great looking fish, by the way.

When I figure out what I want, I was thinking of ordering from Liveaquaria.com. They have a 15 day guarantee.

I have placed one fish order through the divers den on live aquaria.

They are the highest quality mail order fish I have ever received and would not hesitate to order from them again. Next time I need fish I will be going back to them.

I need a nice lineatus fairy wrasse or a school of anthias :)

While we are on the subject of buying anthias, what are there care requirements in quarantine?

Do they do well in a 6 week qt period? Are they sensitive to copper? etc...

I thoroughly agree with you. I too ordered a fish from Live Aquaria and their shipping was excellent. The fish was fat and healthy. She was out and roaming around the tank in about a day or so. Highly recommended.
