Anyone keeping clams under T5 set-up?

Hi,

I am wondering if I have what it takes to get a clam or two. I have a 5ft 120g tank with (4) 54W T5s (2-6500K and 2- 11K White) and 2- 110W Actinic VHO. I feed DTs and Cyclopeeze every other night. Right now tank inhabitants are several LPS, BTA (which moved from on top of a rock to under a shelf when I installed the T5s- now he extends out into the light but keeps his foot and stem under the shelf), Pavona, Acropora and Montipora, growing well and colored nicely. Fish are yellow tang, maroon clown in the anemone, R. gramma and 3 cardinals. Amm/nit/nit= 0 Cal=420 Alk=10dKH.

Anyone else using the T5s on clams with success? What would be a good first clam (that won't take over my tank)?

Also, in my readings I haven't found much specific info on flow requirements- I am guessing similar to LPS?

I have two Croceas in my 40 Gallon with 5 39W bulbs and standard Triad Ballasts. I've had them for 9 months now and they are doing fine.

They are on the rocks about 8" below the water.

You could get away with a derasa.

I agree. It is possible to keep the higher light clams provided you have enough bulbs. I would at least double the amount of light you have now for a maxima or crocea, and then keep them high.

For now, I would get a derasa or maybe a squamosa. They will get big in time, though. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll check out that book and maybe get a few more bulbs going before I start looking at potential clam buys.
