I was looking for some advice. Has any one had any problems with mold due to the fish tank. Oh condensation or any problems with fishtank and mold in general. If any one could help me that would be great.

yeah in a house i lived in i had a problem with mold on the walls in the basement.

best thing you can do is cover your tank and spray lysol wipe down a wall once in awhile and run a dehumidifier, crack a window and let humid air out of your house.

you would be suprised at the difference in humidity from the outside to the indoors, i finish drywall and some days water is running down the windows in houses i work at from the water coming out of the mud. i would imagine a tank is no different.

sometimes its unavoidable.

If you are lucky enough to be building a room for a tank, think moisture barrier and moisture resistant materials. It's relatively easy to dehumidify a room, but very difficult to dehumidify inside a wall once water gets in.

If you have an area with alot of humidity then you can use a bathroom fan and vent it out the side of your house. The bad thing about dehumidifiers is that they are costly to run and put out alot of heat. I just built some cabinets and put a tank on top with a sump inside. I have alot of humidity in there so I'm running a 3 or 4 inch pipe to under the house were it is alway nice and cool to draw air in and a 3 inch line out with a bathroom fan. BTW this hole tank is enclosed so I can do this with out sucking conditioned air from the house out. Also doing this I'm hoping it will keep my tank nice a cool from the halide and summer. Just a thought.

A while back I heard someone say to get rid of mold you spray some bleach followed by spraying hydrogen peroxide .... we had some mold in our garage in KC and I hit it with that combo and let it air dry and it went away .....

If you are in a basement think about some of the kilz anti-mold/fungus/mildew paint as your first layer of paint....

There's a product called X-14 which is sort of a predone bleach solution you can spray on: keep it out of your tank.

Two other very good products are: --Dry-lok, I think it's called: goes on like paint and seals a masonry or plaster wall. Looks a lot like concrete when it dries. If you are getting moisture through a basement wall, this will stop it. It's even fish-safe: we used it to seal a planter [one of those old brick things inside the house] and turn it into a fish pond.
---Kilz. Comes in spray cans and by the bucket: if you have a persistent stain of any kind, including mold, after you have stopped the water that is causing it, ---it will cover it. It will also cover a wall so your next paint goes on in one coat, no matter WHAT color the previous paint was.

Try spraying straight peroxide. More tank friendly and it is a natural disinfectant. I use straight peroxide to clean out my water and salt barrels and too freshen things up around the fish room. Half water and half peroxide is an excellent tank cleaner for the outside also. It is cheap also. I put a little in the humidifier when I fill with water to keep bacteria down and freshen the existing water. Works great.
