Anyone know anything about these

Actinic?

Actinic?

From my research actinic lights should peak in the 420nm range. This light says it peaks at 460nm. That is more blue than the typical actinic fluorescent bulb. It may still make the colors pop out but I don’t think it is truly actinic. On the up side that should have more visible light than an actinic.

I would be suspicious since they do not post the information on the brightness in any format. LEDs are rated in several ways. Wattage, intensity(mcd), and mW lumens are common and would be easily available from the LED manufacturer. If they have them set up correctly with a good design, I don’t see why they would not advertise that.

It also depends on what the objective is. If you want to use it for spot lighting specific items it may work well. If you intend to replace MH or other main lighting I would think you would need a lot of them.

I ordered some 395nm and some 470nm LEDs last week and they will be here Tuesday. I will let you know how they work out. My goal is to use them as spot lights to bring out the color of specific items in the tank. My son and I are also setting up a science project to observe the effects of different lighting on Zoas. More on that later.

Just my $.02

thanks alot Faz!

In the science project you should put a laser light (laser pen) on one for ten minutes a day or something haha call me crazy but I have always wanted to see if laser light makes a difference on coral growth lol
