Anyone knows about the genx pumps

hi,

I have good experience with the pcx-55 which runs my mrc skimmer,

they are new pumps, only a few yrs on the market, but decent guaranty, cheaper than others similar performance pumps, good luck

There was some problems with parts in the submersable pumps rusting. I don't know if it was resolved. I think the external pumps are ok. I run 2 external with 1" penductors on my reef. They are a little loud but have been working well.

I beleive that the solution for the submersible pumps was the glue the rear plate so that we can't inspect it anymore.

That doesnt sound good

Eh, I still use it. I figure that since some people dose iron, what major harm could it do?

Can any of you guys tell me what is the model that rusts? Thanks

The big hoo-haw was over the 4100, but it was just the heat sink in the back rusting. It should be covered in epoxy, but at least for a while wasn't.

The fact that they started glueing the back panel in place tells me thats probably thier idea of a fix instead of adding epoxy.

I see. Is the genx2400 good though?

Beats me. Practically all the pumps are probably made by the same factories in China. I've never used a 2400, but my 4100 is pretty good.

ive never had a noisy internal pump.. always an option. the iwakis are very quiet. it is probabally worth the little extra money in the long run.

the gen x 1000 is pure crap, the genx1500 is a good powerhead for a big tank the 2400 is what i use for my return on my scwd it works great good flow and is quite but on a skimmer is another question lol like a train

I have a 2400 needlewheel on my skimmer. I've got mixed emotions. On one hand, it was very affordable and seems to work reasonably well. On the other hand, it is pretty loud and the plastic it is made from is *very* cheap. I've broken the tabs on the impeller shroud *several* times -- and that was knowing how delicate they are. The first time, the importer sent me a replacement for free. I didn't ask after that, instead I've build a clamp to hold it on snugly.

The quality difference between the Gen-X pump and my Eheim 1250 is like night and day. The Eheim is quiet and built like a tank. If Eheim comes out with a reasonably priced needlewheel version of the 1250, I'll replace the Gen-X in a heartbeat.

Bottom line? You get what you pay for.
