Anyone local running ozone?

Just wondering if anyone around here runs ozone on their tank? Thinking about getting a unit. If so what are your thoughts on ozone?

I secound the inquary. I was thinking of running it through my skimmer. Good thread ironwill. The parts don't seem to be that expensive; I was looking at them from aquacave and I don't think it's bad idea esp. if you have illness prone fish.

You read my mind...I have five tangs that are ich prone and foul up the water real quick. My skimmer does a great job but I am looking for something more to help with water quality and disease reduction. Seems from what I have read ozone along side with UV does a good job of keeping water quality in check. I also think I need to get a stronger UV system as well. I have two coralife turbotwist 12x's running which has a total of 72watts of UV but from what I can gather with my tank volume (300g+) I would be better served to be in the 120-150w UV range.

ever consider running a diatom filter? i was tossing the idea around as well.

I'm not local. But I have run ozone for years. It polishes the water like the clarity you had in the first week of filling the tank.

But, you should run the water through carbon to strip the o3 ions out of the water stream post ozone input. Also, if the ozone bleeding into the air via the vent of the skimmer is high you can have a build up of it that will burn lung tissue. It's an oxidizer so making sure it's not left unvented or not removed/being stripped off via carbon on the air side can be an issue. I've never had a problem and I love the yellow being taken out of the water. Also, the redox potential is raised and with a controller for that parameter you can set it to the 375/435 range that is found in the ocean.

When used properly it's the cat's meow. Some folks are afraid of it and or have ran great systems without so alot call it old school and don't bother.

I am considering running ozone when I upgrade my tank. Many people run it through there skimmer but unless you are 100% sure your skimmer is ozone safe, you can destroy your skimmer. The best and most efficient way is to use an ozone reactor that the ozone generator feeds into. Here are a couple pages that pretty much give you all the info you'll need.
