Anyone looking for Duncanopsammia axifuga?

I recently purchased some purple(with purple and green tips) duncans from this company and have been very pleased. I got a four polyp frag that had a fifth polyp already almost fully grown. Since then(in about three weeks) three new babies have formed and a fourth is now forming. Well, the guy i got mine from just got five new colonies. He had green(not ORA), two bicolors, purples(like I originally got), and yellows(these are awesome). I talked to him and he said he could do them for $25-$30 per polyp. This would be the cost, along with part of shipping if anyone wants to go in with me.

Just PM me or call me 4078082212 if anyone wants to get some. I will be talking to him today and telling him what I want, but I'll probably hold off shipment until next week. This will give time to anyone who wants it. He also has australian acan lords, but they are around $300 for 5-6 polyps. Also has some Japanese micros that are costing very pretty pennies. I'm sticking with the duncans as they are very popular and this price tag is spectacular. Most of the stuff is on eBay from Roesmarineworld or on his website www.roesmarineworld.com It'll be cheaper if we go in together for shipping and if we keep it off of eBay (no auction or PP costs).

That's so tempting but I'm not sure how it would do in my tank. I seem to have crappy luck with the Dendro I got from SITC. Well, then again my frogspawn let out a little loose bit of itself the dendro caught.. :( Such a nice price for a polyp too.. I'd probably do it if i wasn't trying to convince kevin that we need a 125g tank

I haven't had luck with any of the dendrophyllidae family like I have with duncans. They don't close up like the others (dendrophyllia, tubastrea, etc) and they eat like crazy. Might not be the best choice if you can't keep other ones well, but these grow faster than I have seen any other coral in my tank...4 new polyps in a few weeks is a record for me. For the price, might be worth a shot with one or two, but I'm not trying to talk you into it. I'm hoping those yellows will grow at the same rate, as I have not seen much like them...

Yeah I was looking at those yellows on the ebay site you linked thinking to myself "are they supposed to look like that? they look cool but.. what the? why haven't i seen anything like this before?"

I kind of like the purply green ones. If you just so happen to order an extra one once I know what is going on with this other tank I'd buy it off of you but I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch

I don't know, I think the yellows are actually that color...if you look at the colony, they all look like that and they were from the same place. Also, he has all five lined up in another picture and the green/purples all look fairly similar, but the yellows look completely different. I'll see about an extra polyp, but I'm probably just ordering what I can afford. I will have some of those purples getting fragged if they keep growing the way they have...9 and counting!!

Wow sounds like super fast growers - what are you feeding them and how often? this is tempting.. i'd almost like to try one of those yellows to see how it would do.. if it was for only $25 I could probably do it but its a good thing my husband doesnt read these boards religiously right? Let me know when you know you'll be ordering and i'll mull it over between now and then.

i really like unique looking things and they do look pretty cool - different from like those canary yellow tubastrea or whatever they are.

Should be until next week before I finalize the order, so I'll keep you posted. Yeah, fast grower indeed. Different color morphs of the species grow at different rates, so do know about the yellows yet. I feed the same mixture I give my anems, fish, and LPS's. A whole bunch of things, mostly seafood from the grocery store, but also a bunch of mysis and brine.

Bump...I'm surprised that with the popularity of Aussie duncans that more people aren't jumping on board. 5 day guarantee on them also. All I ask is that you split shipping. Shipping is a flat rate $35 and there are two people in the deal already...two more and it's less than $10 each.

Okay I flipped a coin. I'll try out one of the yellows and hope it is as fast a grower as your bicolor :) It is too cool of a thing to pass up as I've never seen anything quite like it before. It reminds me of a dendro that is partially photosynthetic (duncans are like that right and i'm not a retard? good to feed a lot but also open up a bit in the day?)

Just double checking my homework is right, too :)

Turbinaria, Duncanopsammia, and some species of Heteropsammia contain zooxanthellae(Symbiodinium microadriacticum), or are hermatypic corals.

Mine are overfed, but also get plenty of light...they do not shut during the day like many tubastrea and dendrophyllia species. Many of these azooxanthellate corals (notophyllia, enollopsammia, and many others) make up the deep water coral reefs of Florida between 600-800m deep!!

im in. id you order I can go for a single polyp of the bicolor. if they have it, if not, then a yellow. :) just let me know what i need to do.

Also looking at the auction but was wondering the polyps look pretty small. How big are the ones you got from them???

I've been tempted ever since I saw this coral, since Julian S. had it. My tanks are not made for this coral, but you know what I just thought of someone that has a tank that is. I'm in for a polyp!

Sammie, the polyps were huge...look at the post of my pictures and you'll see. I can't guarantee that's how yours will come, but mine were wonderful, well over a quarter's size.

Okay then, so far I have:

smpolyp for one (bicolor or yellow?)
loosbrew for one bicolor
Chrisstie for one yellow
cristhiam for one bicolor
Basser1 for one yellow, one purple, and one bicolor
Me for three yellow and two bicolors

When is the day I should have them come in? I was thinking Monday for Tuesday arrival. I should get the package by lunch, be out for lunch by 12 and back by 1. Could you all meet on Tuesday for pick-up? I'd rather not have to acclimate them to my tank and worry about a clownfish bumping it, my jawfish dumping sand on it, a hermit knocking it over, etc. I could bring them(still bagged, obviously) back to work and you can meet me up there any time until 5:15. When I got them, they were well bagged and could have withstood another day in shipping, so a few extra hours should not be the deciding factor on the coral's outcome. He has a 5 day guarantee, also. Will Tuesday work? And is every body a definite, because I will be placing these orders tomorrow unless otherwise noted...I won't give a definite ship date yet, but I don't want to be left with a $300+ bill and nobody to show for it.

So far, though, this should bring our shipping down to $6 each...

Just for my own reference to keep records straight when I'm talking to him and sorting them when they come in:

loosbrew = #1
Chrisstie = #2
cristiam = #3
Basser = #4
smpolyp = #5

I hope everyone else is in because I am and thats excellent shipping price- makes the price of a polyp a steal I wish I could afford more!

I am free Tuesday (the 13th? right?) but don't know where you live so you'll have to PM an address so i can google maps stalk you. I mean, arrive to claim my polyp :) .. Also when you have a final breakdown on price for each one of us - would you accept paypal or do you prefer cash? I would have to find an ATM between now and then if so.

Thanks Craig I can't wait!!

Cash is preferable or check is fine(don't want to be paying fees on top of this humongoid bill:)). I'll pay for everyone as long as you guys promise not to leave me hangin'. I've been left with other people's items on a group buy before and I cannot do so when the price is over $300.

So far, I have two that are good for Tuesday and I am good for that day, so it looks like this will be the day barring complications from everyone else. Still tentative and I will concrete it towards the weekend.

#2, #3, and #0(me) are already in for Tuesday and since responding, I will now consider them definite. Still waiting to hear from #1, #4, and #5.
