Just curious if anyone has ordered Lalo live rock from liveaquaria. I'm thinking about ordering some and wondering if it is worth the money. If anyone has bought any other type I would also like to hear about that. Thanks for the help.

My brother and me both placed seperate orders for 30lbs. and both of us got 1 rock about 29lbs. and a fist sized rock. His was
covered in corals and even had handfulls of sps in it and some strange brown eggs. They all died though. Mine is pretty much lacking corals. Both are starting to show pink coraline growth. Neither are showing much in copepods yet. The carribean rock I got cycled and populated with pods and micro brittle stars much quicker. All that is showing up on the rock so far is small feather dusters. Also, the carribean was a very good mix shapes and was almost two much for my 45 stretch hex.

Did you do water changes during the curing process? Did you lose a lot of life because of high ammonia or nitrites?

I am also interested in this rock and would love to see some images of anyone who has ordered it in the past.

Hello everyone...

Thanks for the reply Matt. I ordered some anyways cuz I couldn't wait anymore :) I ordered 30 lbs Lalo and 20 lbs of Carribean. I would first like to say that the Lalo was awesome. It has tons of corline growth on it. I got 3 pieces. One slab is about 3 inchs thick and 14 iches wide and 8 inches tall. It's absolutely covered in different colored corline (pink, red, purple, and some green!) Another piece was about 8 iches by 8 iches all the way around... kind of like a womens basketball, but not quite that big. The other was another slab 7 iches by 5 inches(2-3 inches thick). It looks really nice. I think the total weight was about 5-7 lbs short, but that's ok considering the quality.

The Carribean I would not recomend. There aren't too many holes in it, so I can't imagine I'm going to have a lot of critters inside it. I was pretty disapointed with it. I proabably scraped off 4 lbs of mud. Hardly any corilne on any of the pieces. One piece was excellent, it is about 7 iches long and 4 inches wide and one inch thick. The reason why I like it so much is becuase it has 2 very bright croline algee spots on it... one is bright red and the other is bright orange. I'm hoping the orange will spread on the rest of the carribean which contains hardly any algee. There was a lot of plant life on the carribean which makes it stand out from the Lalo. Also I had about 7 lbs of rubble in my 20 lbs box! not cool. All the other pieces were fist size. I called and complained and they did make it right. Great customer service.

Overall I would recomend not getting the Carribean and investing in Lalo instead or....

If you are looking for great rock somewhere else Salycritter has AMAZING rock. I ordered 45 lbs ($190 with ground shipping, came in one day cuz I live in ohio, that is where they are located) of Uaniva and specified sizes and they sent me rock just as good as Lalo if not better in the exact sizes I specified. They ended up sending me 30 lbs of Uaniva and 15 lbs of Vanuatu. The guy at the store said I would like it better and he was right. No extra charge just wanted to make sure I got the sizes I wanted so they upgraded me.

I also ordered a 5 lbs Marshall Island Rock from CoralsPlus.com. This rock is expensive but I wanted a piece in my tank for a little more diversity. Not as much algee on this rock, but crazy green and orange and red colors on it. Not to mention the shape of the rock is really great. This stuff you can drop right in your tank with little effort of cleaning. The stuff from live aquaria takes a lot of work to scrub off all the dead sponges ect. But that is because it's uncured. The rock from Coralsplus was cured. About $35 with shipping(also ground shipping and it came in one day, they are located in Michigan).

Hope this helps you guys out there.
