Anyone running a calcium rector?

I might have a regulator and 10lb tank I'll sell you for cheap.

If you want new I bought mine from eBay, I think the place is called the beverage factory. Best price on a tank. Then I just have it filled at the gas place on Cleveland ave. There are a few gas places on Santa Rosa ave and one on piner as well.
 
I haven't run a reactor before so this is just me talking but I think a reactor might be over kill on your size tank. And more of a hassle then setting up dosing pumps with 2 part.
 
overkill maybe so, but Id like to do it just so I'm not storing so many different chemicals, foods etc etc. I might end up hitting you up on the tank eventually.
 
Just remember at the end of a co2 it dumps all the CO2 at the end and can cause your effluent to go sharply low pH and can inject too much CO2 into ur tank.
 
Yeah but they last a LOOOOONG time so as long as your not totally oblivious to it than it shouldn't be a issue.

It is not "that long"... I think it is like 3-6 months on a 5lb tank. The problem is remembering when 3-6 month is and then scheduling a refill at your local welding shop or airgas store

By scheduling I mean you finding time to do it.
 
The few I know running them are getting about a year from their tanks. The tank will be in my stand next to my sump so if I just keep the gauge facing out, it won't be much of an issue, just something to be mindful of.
 
Not to argue with zero but...

Better quality regulators do not dump. Two stage quality regulators will empty the tank with the same CO2 flow as they started.

To know more than you ever wanted to know about regulators check out 'theplantedtank.net'. CO2 injection is a really common practice for FW planted tanks. They have a lot of experience using CO2.

John definitely would know much better than me since he keeps freshwater. I just never quite knew my brand so read that it is something that could happen.

Plus I think once one of my tanks did "dump" as I noticed my pH at like 5.0 (or that could have been my solenoid sticking open and not stopping CO2 injection). I think that was due to too fast a bubble rate which even when solenoid fails still put in TOO much CO2.
 
I agree the key is remembering. For a long time I checked my co2 regularly. Then after a year of it running I was not checking that often. Then I looked and my tank was empty. I don't know if it dumped or not but it could have been empty for a day or a week who knows.
 
I've been using my 10lb tank for about a year and haven't refilled it yet. I got it filled at the welding supply place on piner rd.
 
Last time I had my CO2 filled (piner), I was shocked how much it was. They said it was new regulations.

I usually go to the one on Cleveland Ave. Their hours are 'flexible' so don't go at the end of the day and expect them to be open. :)
 
I just scored a schuran Calcium reactor and a regulator for a favor =). All I need Is a tank and media.. Oh And the patience to dial it in lol.
