anyone tried these frag plugs

I haven't tried those yet, but if they are similar to the rest, once detached from the egg crate, it will float away. It is very light.

I dont like them cause it seems like a waste to stick that much of the frag into the big hole in them

I bought a pack once, just to get free shipping. They were like 5 bucks and I was 5 dollars short from reaching the "$200 or above gets free shipping" deal. I have never used them though, they are way too light, not to mention with the slots that they have to hold onto the eggcrate, it makes them hard to place anywhere else.

I just stick with tumbled marble tiles from home depot or lowes, they have a heavy weight and a flat bottom so you can place them anywhere.

I have used them, but they are tough to get out of an egg crate frag rack because of their shape on the stem. IMO.

My experience with them too. That, and, like the other poster mentioned, you waste a lot of the length of the coral frag embedding it into the well of the frag plug - almost 1/2". So, if you are only making small, 1" frags to begin with, you will lose half of the frag.

They are a bit heavier than other plugs, so, they don't tend to float away or anything, like the other person had mentioned.

I've used nearly 400 of these things and will never go back to fired ceramic plugs. Here's the secret: pick up a tub of KZ Speedglue. Fill the plug up with that stuff (very cost effective, FYI, one tub will fill hundreds of these plugs with concrete adhesive) and off you go.

just ordered some of their mag plugs...how did you mount your monti caps to these? How big of a frag? Thanks

I've never been good at cuting a monti cap to a size I want. Usually when I make the first cut, it'll chip off. Any size will work as long as it's big enough to glue and have some extra to start to grow from.

someone out there has something very similar but has cut outs on the bottom to go over the cross of the eggcrate instead of being put into the square.... gotta find a link. I like those over this design.

I use ocean wonders arag plugs, tiles, and discs, and glue

I use those since 7-8 months they're really good for longer frags. you do want to have part of the frag go inside it formore staility. I use epoxy to fill the whole and then insert the frag in it and it's a perfect hold. Adding superglue can add mor stability for a longer frag.
With epoxy they become heavy and never float.
They're shape from below is really good as you can insert it oblique to the square of the eggcrate and then twist it so the little protruding edges get stuck against the eggcrate and then you'll have to twist and pull to take it off. Never had one blow away.
They are a bit on the tough side to insert in live rock when that frag is big so in this case you either find a hole they fit in and add some epoxy and then it should be fine or just clip the coral and attach to LR and replace the plug in the frag tank for another growth sequence.
