Anyone try AuraLed?

I haven't gotten my fixture yet, because apparently the blue leds were backordered. Rob emailed me earlier that he was getting some in this week so hopefully I should have a unit for testing very soon.

Thought I would jump in here and add my two cents for what it is worth. I live in Manassas VA so I am not to far from him in Norfolk. I am a Joint Venture Partner with Panera Bread as well. He has a sign company that actually does contract work for Panera and other chains here in Virginia and he has been in buisness for a good long time. So I think he would be around the three years he is warranty the stuff for. Oh and I also just ordered a lighting set myself from him today for my 125 gallon I have coming at the end of the month. Got mine with the dimmers for red and blue. Cant wait to get it. Even going to drive down to Norfolk and pick it up myself. Oh and like other posts have said he answers the phone and I probably spent 40 minutes on it talking to him and he answered every dumb question I asked. No rush or anything.

I've had my fixture for over a month now. I had hopped to be a good resource for this discussion. I took quite a few pictures under my T5 fixture immediately before swapping to the Auraled fixture and hopped to document the difference. Unfortunately, I had a serious issue when I replaced the tubes on my dosing pump and ended up siphoning about 3/4 gallon of part one and part two into my tank overnight the very day after I installed the new lights. In addition I ended up replacing the screen in my turf scrubber due to it becoming covered in coraline algae and loosing efficiency over time. Nedless to say these two major upsets make it hard to determine the effects of the new lighting. Chemestry all over the place, nitrates got up to 10ppm before I got them turned around. All of my original coral look fine. The SPS frags that I bought shortly after are all nearly dead, but I was never able to grow SPS prior to the new lights either. My clam died, but it didn't look to hot before the chemistry experiment anyway. To my naked eye the new fixture does not look as bright. If I had it to do over, I think I'd have asked for a build with more than 120 watts. I do love the color of the lights. They run cool and after a little dressing up of the wires on my part I think they look fine on the outside also. Sorry but that's all I got. Maybe in a month or two I'll have further comment. Just trying to get everything lined out again for now.

According to fedex, I should have my fixture tomorrow. I bought a 150Watt custom for my 90Gal oceanic tech. I can't promise I'll have time to do the PAR readings before the week-end though.

Guess I will have to call and spend some time with him? Does he just use one type of LED I think I have seen they are 1.5 watt or will he do like Cree 3 watts?

Most of us have been pretty patient about it so far, I think we can wait the extra few days if necessary :D

hi...i bought a custom auraled fixture from Mr. Rob Wood and i got the fixture about 2 weeks later. After putting the fixture on my tank...i notice it was not nearly as bright as the marineland fixtures i had before. I bought an apogee PAR reader and to my surprise here are the readings:

8" Deep - 70 par
24" Deep - 25 par

To my surprise when i ordered the fixture Rob actually guaranteed me that i would be satisfied with the fixture and my PAR would read around 800 at the sand bed 24". PAR Reading on this auraled is nowhere near what he promises...and it actually is extremely low for corals. My fixture had 175 watts and the reading where that low!

After running tests i requested my money back...but for my surprise Mr. Rob Wood declined it and said it was my fault...

My suggestion....stay away from Auraleds...i have done several par readings and they are VERY LOW....i lost 3 corals in the period of 2 weeks with that fixture.

I am not saying shenanigans but I don't trust a person that posts a negative on their first post. I need a picture with the fixture and the corresponding par meter.
kinda like this.

It just seems odd. I was looking at gettting a new LED. But I am still leaning towards the vertex illumina 200 48 inch.

Agreed. I would like to see some other numbers as well. Hopefully he went through Ebay and Paypal and has a course of action he can pursue to get a refund. I mean honestly if you are not satisfied for any reason his auctions have right on it 100% money back guarantee for any reason if not satisfied and that is all Ebay needs to do a refund. But 70 par at that wattage under only 8" seems like a really odd number. Please keep us all updated as to how this goes for you. Sorry about the problems you are having.
