Anyone use Chemi-Pure

I am in the middle of cycling my tank and the tank has been cloudy white since day 1. I put 4 units of chemi-pure in my filter canisters and within 2 days the tank was crystal clear. I am also using Purigen.
Reefwick, it was Chemipure (the carbon and resin). I do not exactly know why it drove the skimmer crazy for the first few hours. I put it in a PhosBan reactor, it could be too much fine particles "leaking" out into the tank water. Next time, I will put a fine mesh floss to the outlet pipe to trap the fine particle for the first day or so. Anyhow, the chemipure works great - my tank water is crystal white ...

i have an extremely bad cyano problem, and my water is crystal clear. if i got chemipure would it do anything?

You need Chemi Clean. It is for cyano and it works. I got mine from Marine Depot.

I second that. Cemi-clean just solved my cyano problem. I would first suggest all other means to rid it from your tank though. Siphon, WC's, flow adjustment, carbon, reduce feedings, etc.. If after all that (or if you've done it already) then use it. It shouldn't be used as a quick fix, you need to improve your husbandry so it won't come back before you treat with this stuff.

From what I have gathered the resins in the Chemipure don't work in saltwater or don't very well. So you are paying alot for the carbon that is in it. I used it just to see and am back to regular Black Diamond carbon. I also tried Purigen and didn't notice any difference.

Theres a good sale on at DrsSmith and Foster on both carbon and chempure. I use it, and it costs me like $50 every six months.....yes some money....but cheap considering the tank costs upwards of $500/month overall.

I have used chemipure for ages and it is an excellent product. I used it in my 55 gallon soft coral/ sps coral tank regularly and I was pleased every time. I do a partial water change, throw a couple bags in my canister filter and the next day the tank would be so clean you couldn't even tell there was water in the tank. IME it would give you a nice polyp extension as well. The resins are probably some form of ion exchange type bead so it probably does bind up a few heavy metals, but overall the beads probably don't effect it that much, except for some very minute trace elements.

I believe the Chemi-pure has given me a problem that I want. I just added a new skimmer a few days ago, and the thing does not produce any skim! Darn. At least it adds oxygen to the water.

Try adding vegetable oil to your water. That will give you no skim as well. Wow, all this time vegetable oil was the key! What kind of skimmer?

Terminator II with sumpless kit by D and D Marine. Do you think that I should add a little motor oil to check the skim? lol

Actually today I came home from work and found my first 'head' of foam in the skimmer. Also, there was some green in it, so something must be happening. I guess jumped the gun.

FWIW I also tried the chemi-pure just before I tried the Purigen. I didn't notice anything different from either one using it or the Black Diamond carbon.
