I was wondering if anyone has used glue to seal a tank underwater? were there any side affects and what brand did you use.
Thanks

Are you talking about fixing a leak in the tank while there is still stuff in the tank?

I would think even if it did work, it should only be for a very temporary time.

To seal a tank properly you'll need to have it dry and cleaned, making sure to get all the old silicone off.

I tried sealing a tank that had a small leak and the new silicone wasn't curing properly. I found that if you scrape all traces of the old residue off and clean it with alcohol it cures like it's supposed to.

I would assume that since you said "glue" and not silicone that you are talking about an acrylic aquarium and not glass. But I really don't know of any product that you can use on either one that will cure properly under water or with that type of stress on it.

There is a product called manusbond that might work on glass/ possibly acrylic. It is NSF (Drinking water safe), but don't know if it is reef safe. We use it regularly underwater to repair steel and concrete drinking water tanks. It gets hard, but remains somewhat flexible for expansion. I know the directions say dry surface, but it works just fine applied under water It does come in clear I believe.

If it is reef safe, it will seal underwater.
