I am considiring the solaris lights as a change. I had a few questions if someone is using them.
1. Do you like?
2. How are the Blue coloring compared to a T5 and VHO actinic or do you loose that flourescent look?
3. Was it stressfull on your reef on switching.
4. I use aquatronica controllers. Can I control the lighting or does the internal control over ride every thing. ( How many plugs does it use) Can I bypass internal controller?

Read this thread, if you don't find your answers I'm sure someone will answer on that thread. Good luck though, its a loooong thread!

Solaris

It's great, I have the 60" 3 power supplies, so far tank at 77 and stays there, room is 75, my heaters even come on when Solaris is on, lol. I have the AquaController III, but only use for pumps and heaters, the computer in the Solaris is one of the reasons I bought it, brings light up slow, simulates couds passing over and takes light down slow at. It simulates seasons and can be st to Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Acclimation is nessacery, a few folks have experienced bleaching, when starting out. This is a breeze, you have 4 group controls, day white, day blue, night white and night blue, all can but adjusted by the push of a button form 0-100%. You can also acclimate useing the timer setting to lengthen or shorten your photo-period. Love being able to switch from growth setting to veiwing spectrums at the push of a button too. Have fun.

So you dont use any settings to shut lights for high temp or high ph?
If you pull the plug on the unit does it have an internal clock or does it need to be reset?

"So you dont use any settings to shut lights for high temp or high ph?"
No heat gain to the tank from light and only 2 Tunze 6000 at 15 watts each in tank, so no need. Have a DC-8 with 4 open recepticles if I need to in summer, but I doubt I will.
"If you pull the plug on the unit does it have an internal clock or does it need to be reset?"
Non volatile memory with a battery already installed so no hiccups, LCD display has a day&time clock and fixture temp display and menu for different program options.

Ahh So if I wanted I could have the unit plugged in my Aquatronica and set it on 24/7 then in programs if needed it could cut power to the Solaris and then power it up with the solaris remembering where it should be.... Kewl... I hope.

I saw one today, and was not overly impressed.....the system wasn't very bright (unless it was turned down for some reason). The color was okay, but nothing to brag about...

for $2200 I would have expected something better looking.

You should ask them what it was set at, mine is plenty bright, but sometimes I run the whites at 50% or it could have been going through a cloud cover phase. The color is really adjustable by the controller also. Have them run it through its range. But then again different people differnt likes, used to not like the blue look.
