Anyone using artificial corals in there FOWLR?

In general, how often are you guys removing the pieces for cleaning? And what are you using for cleaning?

I use Uv on all my tanks and never w good maintenance and skimming have a real issue. Regular water changes and good husbandry each week curtail any real problems w algae .

I have 30 corals in my tank and I just got off my lazy but and cleaned them... took about 40 min. I usually clean them every couple of months but sometimes I go a little longer. I give them a quick soak in a bucket of water and bleach (just a splash of bleach to a couple gallons of water), a quick scrub, rinse and they are clean. I have a few down low in the tank and use tongs to get to them. Im going to post a FTS as soon as the tank clears up.

Do you have to soak in water after the bleach bath? or the quick rinse is enough to safely return the corals back to the tank?

Ive always just run them under the faucet for about 30 seconds each... I dont know if its safe but nothing has died yet.:lol2:

I'd love to see a FTS dzfish, I'm currently planning my upgrade. Had a 90 gallon reef. But might be going to fowlr to save time and money. Don't like the look of just rock though, looks incomplete to me. So really thinking of trying to get fake corals and place them on the rocks to make it look like a reef. Won't be 100% but will hopefully tide me over until I'm out of school and less hectic in life and of course have more money to throw at the tank.

I started a thread and the FTS can be seen here. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2174535started

Check out OCEANAQUARIA great corals realistic, and fair reasonable prices , Andy is a great artist and guy.

Very nice corals, but the site isnt too user friendy, i like to add items to cart and check out, but i cant find that on here
Instant Reef you see what you want and add it to cart and check out, way easier

gotta be careful using fake corals, it can come out looking cheap, cheesy and tacky, couple of nice ones in this thread though.

I find they all look better in person
Ever been to the Rainforest Cafe? and even aquariums use fake corals, take a pic and they look cheesy but when your there they look great lol

Well coralbeauty sorry I just call Andy and the corals arrive in a week with the number and colors I want , To each his own and andy supplies lots of public and private aquariums.

Andy is the owner of Oceanaquaria who makes the awesome museum grade quality of artificial corals that are not cheesey and are looking awesome in peoples tanks Checkout Oceanaquaria.com, I have used them in multiple tank setups for people over the years.
