Anyone using them??? Do you have any pics??? Would like to see a tank with the black sand. How do you guys like it??

I dont have it, but i think one complaint alot of people have is that it shows detritus really easily

There ya go!!

I like it....just wish I got all of my white sand out of the rock crevices, cuz now it looks like salt and pepper! I like that it makes the colors pop a little more, and doesn't reflect light like white sand

Someone just told me the black sand makes the tank darker?? Is that true? Does the white sand actually reflect light?

this is my 2nd tank with black sand. honestly, i do not find it hard to keep it clean.

excellent flow
great cleanup crew (conches, cerith, nassarius)
yellow watchman goby

Get a little army of nassarius snails, and detritus will not show up....plus it's cool to see white shells pop out of the black sand everytime I feed :D

LOL i think we posted at the same time. What kind of lighting do you have on that tank?

if you ar easking me, i am running an odyssea fixture. however, i have replaced the bulbs with 14k phoenixes and the ballasts are the new icecap ballasts. huge difference in spectrum from the stock crap aquatraders gives you.

the white stuff you see on my sand bed are chips from the rocks. my rocks are very porous (marco rocks) so they can flake a little.

as for detritus..i really dont see much because i am running a vortech, tunze 6025 and an eheim 1260 return.

i will see some fish droppings but they dissapear overnight.
are you considering black sand?

just keep in mind, black sand will retain heat so that may add to your overall temps.

for me, i live in the north east so my issue is keeping the tank warm versus those who may live in...arizona or texas.

I'm not worried about the temp. Yeah i just set up another tank and was considering the black sand. Are the ones you guys are using the Carbi-Sea Indo-Pacific Black Sand???
