Anyone using hydrogen peroxide for ORP?

Just remember what the historical use for hydrogen peroxide is.

I have been going through many troubles with tip recession over the summer and believe it is due to a bacterial infection of Vibro which is thought to be the mechanism responsible for Rapid Tissue Necrosis in SPS. I believe this was caused by long term use of Carbon dosing (sugar/vodka) that not only fed good bacteria, but bad, causing an out of balance ratio and growing a large overwhelming colony of the Vibro which began to attack my coral, I am a little leary of anything that could disrupt the bacterial balance within the tank over time currently, and do not think highly of any technique that could do so, with good reason to be I would say......

If you don't have an ORP meter, the why try? If you are interested in ORP control, then you should be using an Ozonizer with a meter like the Redsea type

Don't dose what you don't test!!!

It's like driving with a blacked out windsheild using directions...
They will both end in the same way, a crash!

nice fenner'ism "Don't dose what you don't test!!!"

saltykelly - what is your orp range now in your tank and why do you think you need to hydrogen peroxide ?

Others have used ozone and potassium Potassium Permanganate to raise ORP. But, you need to be REALLY careful using very strong oxidizing agents as it is easy to overdose and really stress the heck out of your corals, etc.

PS I used to use ozone and must admit my water was crystal clear even with 10K halides. However, one day I think I overdosed as the SPS polyps closed up and didn't reopen until I stopped dosing and did a water change.

I don't know what my ORP is currently, but I was thinking about buying a meter and experimenting. I was just curious if anyone has tried hydrogen peroxide. If anyone thinks its a waste of time or too dangerous let me know before I waste about $50 bucks on a meter.

But this is what submarinares do every day? :p They, thankfully, don't crash very often. :D Then again.... not TOO much to crash into in the ocean.
