Anyone using these lights?

they looked to be magnetic...from what i remember there was a large transformer and two capacitors...and the sticker on the transformer said 175watt not 150 watt....ill try and get some pics up

the other thing i noticed was when i tried to replace the 65watt actincs that came in it with some 65watt 03 actincs i had from hellolights they wouldnt fire up...anyone know why this might be?

compact flor - lifetime expectancy

I just found this forum today when I was searching for ODYSSEA tank info. I picked up a Odyssea B45 at a local pet store about 2 weeks ago and transfered over my fresh water fish - 3 silver dollars, some angels, and catfish. Nice set up includes lighting, 45G bow tank, and a built in drip filter in the hood for $379. My main question is how long do the compact bulbs last? I am burning two 65W bulbs 12 hrs per day. Any response appriciated. ~ Thanks.

here is a picture of the inside of the unit i got

on a side note i was able to wire the LEDs so they have independent power from the MH bulb so I can actually use them at night

does anyone have an address to aquatraders? i remember i read that they were located some where in san bruno.

Does anyone have the 211W MH PC combo setup in their room? The magnetic ballast gets really hot and gives off a burnt smell which is getting very annoying. Any solution to this awful burnt smell? I thought I would give it a week or two and its been two weeks and the ballast is still giving off the smell. Thanks for any input?

Careful, I had the "burnt" smell and it turned out to be the capacitor melting.

Received an RMA # to send back the cooked ballast. Sent that back several months ago and haven't heard back from them.

Yikes! I would be bugging them everyday if i were you! if that happened to me i wouldnt have anyway to provide my corals with enough sufficent light.... I'm wishing more and more I would have gone with an icecap retro.

Glad i found this thread. I have the 211w kit. My capacitor popped on me too. I was able to find a replacemt cap and have had no problem with it since. the cap i got was a little bigger, but i moves some parts around and got it running like a champ.

I am just trying to figure out how to wire it so i can control all 3 lights on a timer. I see in this thread there is a whay to seperate the moonlights, but is there a way to seperate all 3?

didnt the 211watt fixture come with two separate external ballasts? one for the PCs and one for the MH bulb?....my 305watt fixture came with two

Yes, mine came with 3 ballast. 1 for the MH and 2 seperate ones for the pc. I'll snap a picture of the ballast in a few. I been chasing wires. I think i might have it down. Just need to label it, Can anyone help me with with what the wire colors mean.

Also note I have 3 on/off switches.

I have green, green/yellow and black. geen yellos seems to be ground as it goes to a bolt on the chasis

wow mine only came with 2 external ballast and 2 on/off switches..... i cant remember what i did exacly for independent LEDs but i think i took one of the wires off the LED on/off switch and hooked up the hot from the plug to that and attached the other lead to connection 8.....but like i said i cant remember without looking at it

I see, well I labeled all my connections as I traced them to PC, MH and ML for the quick disconnects. The green/yellow grounds has all 3 lights going to a chasis ground. So I have determine that green/yellow is grown on the main power the black connects to all 3 ballast. The white branches off to the MH ballast and the PC ballast.

So from here I am going to get my volt meter out and do some chasing down. Once i get it done I will do a full write up on it for other reefers that want to mod theres. I notice a lot of people are having problems with the white capacitor. I recommend replacing it if you want longevity out of this lighting system.

So basicly it is hit or miss as to if they work, and the custmer service suck.
So would you all buy them again or go with another brand ?

I wouldn't recommend buying from them. I am serious, if you get a working light, good for you. If you don't, you are screwed, plain and simple. I have bought 2 lights from them in the past and both needed work before I would use them. One of them has 2 built in cooling fans. They are SO loud and the unit actually rattles. The other unit I have had a ballast that make noise when you moved it. I opened it up and the screws were falling out and one actually did. And don't get me started on the bulbs... :)

The light output is poor quality. I had to separate the LED's so I could put them on a timer. Then the fans in the ballast box started making noises, then the fans in the fixture QUIT! After reading about capacitors popping, I decided to cut my losses and run. I pulled out the LED's and PC's, scrapped the rest of the fixture, and built my own, adding dual 175's from PFO.

see I like the all in three lights in one, that is the BIGGEST factor in even considering to buy these lights, I guess If I could find someone that has them used(so I know they won't catch fire) and replace the bulbs, it would seem that I would get a decent light. Now the problem is finding the one I want used LOL Do you think the reflectors could be replaced with smooth ones?
