Anyone using these lights?

New tank 3 weeks into the cycle.

Ok I gave in and bought the 48" 2x150HQI and 2x96w PC's (plus luner lights) ended up being $333 after shipping .... $53 for shipping is outrageous!

I ordered it last night so we'll see how long it takes. I will tr to post pics when it arrives.

Okay, I made it through page 22 before I gave up. Is anyone using the pro-pak or the dual?

Yep, I have the dual. Works better than my cpr. Pulls out a ton of skimmate. Just added 2 rio ph's.

I'm a little upset. I got an email today saying that they sent me the 2x175w fixture instead of the 2x 150w (at no charge)

I waited weeks for the 2x150w to be back in stock before i ordered because I have never heard of 175w DE bulbs before...... i think its probably just 150w bulbs overdriven.

That could be a 150 watt HQI lamps on a magnetic ballast which will overdrive the lamps some. Actually might not be a bad deal for you unless it is some kind of a bastardized socket that will only run a "175 watt" DE lamp, then I'd be POed.

Has anyone purchased the 48" T5 HO 2 x 54W light? Besides the bulbs, how do these lights perform? Can they be mounted in a hood? Thanks.

I'm also curious to see if anyone else has mounted them into a hood or not. I'm building a new canopy and would want to mount into the hood, curious to see how it would work out. Anyone?

I just purchased the two 175W double ended HQI 20000K & two 96W compact fluorescent bulb actinic blue & six LED bluemoon night light for a 75 gallon.

Let you know how they work when I get them.

Hi Everyone,

I am extremely new to the hobby. Been doing a ton of reading on the forums. Bought a couple of books and did some more reading.

I think I am going to pull the trigger on a 75 gallon tank that my LFS has for sale for $99!! So that will get me started anyway.

Anyway, I would like to get into a reef system and I read enough to know the lighting dictates what you can get.

I've been following this thread with interest because I will need lighting of course!

What will this light setup allow me or not allow me to keep in my tank? Oh, I know measurements can be a little skewed but I assume a 48" wide light will fit a 48" wide tank?

If the link doesn't go, I was looking at the MH 596 total watts system.

Thanks!

Sorry I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have pics (I could post if anyone wanted me too) but I got my fixture a couple days ago. It came packaged pretty decent, box inside of box with the ballasts in a separate box (should have after paying $53 to ship). All of the bulbs arrived working.

At first the bulbs were firing at different colors (Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not sure how they are now because I have the light filtering through smoke colored plexi-glass for acclimation purposes) But I think once they burn in they will be OK. As for color I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t really have anything to compare them to because these are my first halides.

Based on pictures I've seen I would say they don't look 20K maybe 12-14K. The halides came in a ballast box with a switch for them and for the moonlights with only 1 power cord.... I was really bummed about this because there's no way to put them both on timers. I fixed this by rewiring a second power cord (a little confusing with all there wiring) the box gets warm but not terribly hot. It has 2 small fans blowing out. It rattles and hums a little but when it's under my stand you can't hear it.

The 2-96w PC actinics are blue not really true actinics but still fluoresce a little. They came with there own separate remote ballast and quick disconnect plug. At first I hated them and was going to switch them out for either real actinics or daylights, but after awhile I got use to them and am starting to like them. The only thing is that they angle outwards quite a bit and light up the whole room rather than just the tank. I think I am going to enclose the entire fixture in a canopy

The moonlights are not placed very evenly and you can't adjust them but the color of them are awesome and make a colony of zoos I have really glow (it's really cool). Also, the mounting legs that came with it are flimsy but still work. Overall I think itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s an OK fixture for beginners.

There is really no reason to expect the lamps will burn into the same color but the difference may notbe as noticable. You are probably better off if the lamps aren't 20K's, 20K lamps don't have a lot of PAR. Were the lamps labeled 175 watts or 150? Did the halide ballast have a M number on it, M58, M80 etc.? I was just wondering if this was truely a 175 watt system or if they are just claiming a higher wattage for a 150 HQI.

Thanks.

Uhm yeah the ballast had the m number but i cant remember what it was, is was in the 100's. the ballast and the bulbs both say 175w. There was another thing in the ballast box (looked like a capacitor but wasnt labled as one) said something about for 150w HID.

I knew i should have taken pictures whle I had it open.
