Anyone using Vortech pumps?

I'm considering selling off my Tunze setup and buying a couple vortechs, but I'm on the fence and not sure if its a good move or not. I've got a discussion going in the equipment forum but thats not helping all that much.

What I'm looking for is someone who has Vortechs setup that I could come over and see them in action.

What model streams are you running, just out of curiosity?

I have a 6000 and a 6100 with a 7095 multi controller.

I just replaced 2 6080 tunze's with a vortex with a controller. Best move I ever made. Looking to add a second one soon as the price is a little steep to purchase a couple at a time. I have a 7ft tank and it reaches the other side. If I run it wide open it blows everything over up to the middle of the tank.

I have a 4ft tank and running the two tunzes I'm having a problem with the sand blowing out of the corners of the tank. I don't like it. I was wondering if the Vortechs with a wider flow patern would eliminate this issue. I had my streams running 1 on at 30% and pulse to 60% then rotating to the other pump after 30secs. I've changed this to both streams running at 30% facing directly at each other from across the tank and pulsing to 60%.

I just made the switch today so it will take some time to see if it has made any impact on my issue. I want good flow for my LPS but I don't want my substrate to move... is my dilema.

Brian...PM'ed you...I have 2 spare 6000 transformers (I bought the 6100 transformer to get more flow out of my 6000's...) if you want to try one of them to "down-grade" your 6100 to a 6000 you are more than welcome to...maybe the lower flow of the downgraded head would be enough to keep the sand from blowing around...

But...if you sell...I would be interested in them...

If you have the Streams on the magnet holders, angle the Stream to the side and then tilt the holder 30 degrees or so the Stream points upward some. Use the plastic nut and bolt supplied with the Stream to lock it onto the holder bracket so it won't rotate. I run mine on 50% - 100% like this. Another solution is to create a circluar pattern by positioning one pump in the front corner and one in the rear on the opposite side. Blowing sand can be a problem with higher flow rates.

You will have the same trouble with any pump that you use that moves that volume of water. The thing that you might not realize is that your Tunzes can be angled anywhere in your tank while the Vortecs can only be pointed directly away from the glass you mount them on. There is no way to pivot or angle the flow from the Vortec. If you get the Streams pointed just right you should be able to avoid this problem.

the thing i foudn with the vortechs is it pulls and then pushes water EVERYWHERE!! as long as it is about 10" off the sand on your tank you will notice that in any of its modes it shouldnt be a problem with the sand moving
